Hi everyone, well as the title says Nic and I have been granted 6 weeks to go travelling, we are planning to go to France. Unfortunately the dates fall in the summer holidays so will be busy and hot,and we have no air con, but it was too good a chance to turn down.

We are thinking of heading down to the Dordorgne and the Lot, but any suggestions are welcome as we prefer the rural areas of France . We have bought the France Passion and All The Aries books so have all the info for places to stay. We have holidayed in France before but not in a motorhome only in the UK.

The information I was looking for was to do with gas regulators, we have room for a 13kg and a 6kg cylinder, not gas low, which would run the fridge and the cooker. I'm hoping that it will be enough to see us through the 6 weeks, but if not could any of you experienced European travellers give me some info on what I would need as regards to French regulators.

I have looked for information on the forums but would appreciated first hand advice or links to the correct info.

Any other advise is also welcome, we are a bit wet behind the ears. Also could you also tell me where the vets are located so we can check our dog in on the way back home.

Many thanks in anticipation and look forward to your replys

Mike and Nic :D:D

You could take a camping gaz cylinder with you. a bit expensive but will get you out of trouble. Make sure that you have the revevant regulator.

As already said the camping gas 907 cylinders are readily available everywhere. If you haven't got one you could just take a regulator and pick one up if you need it. Last time I purchased a new one in leclerc supermarchet it was the same price as here.

hi ,the bottles you are taking will probably do it all. but as most french bottles use our old lh screw on butane regs cant you find aan adaptor here try bes . they can i,m sure supply something . if your camper uses pigtail from a bulkhead fixing its just a case of changing the tail. you could just get a french bottle and reg and cut the hose and fit the french reg.i use french style regs most of the time and adapt uk bottles and camping gas to fit the french style regs. regs in morocco only cost a couple of quid so i always get mine there . but google BES they have a good website and send out good catalogue for you to look at. cheers alan.

40 litres just for the fridge and cooker (no HWS???) should be enough anyway.

I just bought a 13kg bottle of butane for 20 euro with 1 euro consignment cost - no ID required - so ended up cheaper than autogas which I can't get around here. Previously had a Moroccan 13kg bottle as a standby. Identical, but doubt whether I could get it filled around here. Regulators to suit all the different bottles are readily available in stores so I doubt whether you need to put gas too high on your list of potential problems. Spain however ....

Regarding vets there are quite a few near the main channel ports who are happy to fill out the pet passport for you. Here is a list of vets Vets in Europe and a quick google will find more. The cost is usually between 40-60 euro. One thing the dog could do with is a Scalibor Collar that protects against sandflies, ticks & mozzies especially if you're heading south. We're taking our dog with us to the Camargue in August so I've been researching.
