5th wheel fun

hi. yes unfortunately its been around lots of years. but never mind always interesting.
there is some others of beetles with coach built campers on them. keep up the good work.

hi, thats a nice upto date pic . i have been tothe clip-car place in france severalyears ago . but i havent seen thatr last one. of course not swivelling but they do work well. can scrub tyres but then so does any tandem axle nice one, oh. there is so much on the internet can find things new all the time. cheers alan.

Reminds my of one of my Dads mates who used to race sidecars in the 60's.

A van was too slow, so was a trailer, so he grafted a large van onto the rear of a Jag car to get the outfit inside to go to race meetings.

Excellent accommodation as well!!

He remembers going down the M6 and passing a mini, the turbulence of a van doing about 100 almost blew the Mini off the road!!

Both very clever ideas, considering building a 5th wheel camper myself from an old exhibition unit, hadn't considered the possibility of pulling it with anything other than a pickup before though. Thanks for opening my eyes :)

hi marcs . mine was an empty trailer when i bought it, it was built by lynton trailers in manchester. oiginally pulled by a vw lt 50 .i still have the lt. its a 20ft box trailer 7ft6ins wide.
i built the unit from our local gravediggers tipper truck. i used the mitsubishi as they are narrow and mine is a 7seater. its only just a bit longer than a car, total length 10 mtr ,hieght 3 mtr. i converted the inside 11yrs ago.you have the right idea ,exhibition units do come cheap. mine including the vw was 1650quid at the time a gift. its mot exempt and if you pm me i can fill you on with more details. just nearly finished refitting a truck for a mate now. doing it yourself epect to spend 5-6 grand on bits to convert . could be more but not much cheaper. cheers alan.

Thanks for the info Alan, didn't realise yours was a self build but it was yours that actually got me thinking of it, watched a few go by on eBay recently very cheap and like the idea that I could use the tractor unit as 'a car' and also get a 5th wheel transporter trailer, only thing im currently missing is somewhere to keep the trailers!

I'm not a full member yet so can't pm but will when I can.

Cheers.
