5 amps vs 9 amps pannel

My 100w pannel out put is 5 amps, looking at 285w pannel but only has 9 amps output.
What is the best pannel wattage to buy for size and £. For ampage in battery, or am I best just to add another 100w for 10amps
Also Need new leisure battery for new year we use about 50 amps in 24 hours including tv
 
Ignore the amps, it's the wattage that is important.

Make sure your controller is compatible with whatever you buy.
 
Lucky you are getting 5ah at this time of year.
I run 200w of panels and through a mppt control unit which charges les and starter battery.
I have tested it with a fridge running two days but the tv uses most power at 3ah.
this is the new regulator im fitting.

As st3v3 , check for controller compatibility before committing. And likely need to update it!

The reason why the 285W panel is "only" putting out 9 amps is because it will also be at twice the voltage as the 100W panel. Some Solar controllers have a voltage limit of 20V, 25V or 32V - and a "24V" panel like the one in your link will be running at around 40V so may not be suitable for your existing Solar Controller?
An MPPT controller that can deal with the higher voltage will convert that higher voltage into extra current. A PWM controller that is ok with the higher voltage will just throw it away and you would actually get more from your existing 100W panel than that new 285W panel!
 
The most I get out of my 150w panel is 6 - 7 Amps and that is on a really good bright sunny day is Spain. My 100w panel that is pointing South and facing the sun ie not flat and lives on the side of the shed was pushing out just over 1A at lunch time today. There is not enough daylight / sunshine to generate 50A in 24 hours in the Uk. The further North you go the worse it gets. For maximum power the solar panel should be facing the sun not lying flat on a MH roof.

You would be better off using a hydrogen fuel cell which would give you a reliable 3.3A for 24 hours so approx 80A or a generator :mad:

I see my pannels voltage is 22v @ 5 ish amps.
Im not looking for 240 v only amps in battery, so that pannel for higher volts at lower amps.

In that case, the chances are it will be a basic 10A controller supporting no more than 130W or so of solar panel. It is a simple job to replace it with a better once and is a straightforward swapout assuming the cabling is halfway decent.
Go for an MPPT controller and you will get a lot better performance from any panels you get. Choose one with a decent input voltage capability (a Victron MPPT 100/20 for example, which will accept up to 100V and 20A) and you could connect any typically available panels up - the smaller 12V ones, or the larger 24V (not 240V, I said 24V ;) ) - and the controller will convert it to the right voltage level for your battery.

Just to clarify again - you can't look at amps in isolation - power in Watts is Voltage x Amps. So lower current does not mean lower power if it is accompanied by higher voltage. For example, my peak solar in the last week was 125W coming in - the array put in just 1.6A at that time, but because that was at a high voltage (nearly 80V), the controller converted that seemingly small 1.6A in to nearly 10A actually into the battery as that high voltage gets changed to more current (so I got around 125W into the battery).
