Had our van 3 weeks today!! .. done 500 miles this weekend so she is going well (still have to sort the hot water out tho)

Started in dawlish warren (friday).. popped onto a little campsite (£17) for one night just up in the lane think it was called "leadstone" lovely site.

followed the coastal roads (which were mostly lanes) all the way down to st austell stopped at a little site in par (not sure of the name it was something farm on the right hand side of the road just before st austell) lovely site with big private pitches (£18) .. wish we had travelled a little further as between st austell and mevagissey there are 2 good laybys on the left we could have put our heads down for the night (live and learn these spots)

popped into a few other places on the way if i explained them all this would turn into a book lol...

has anyone stayed in the campsite on bodmin moor by colliford lake ??

:D lisa and jamie so happy with our new (old) camper can't wait to go again

Campsites

Hi Lisa and Jamie,
sorry can,t help with the site you mentioned.
But have you thought about joining one of the clubs ( C Club or C& Camping Club).
We use them for CL and CS sites that only cost £3- £12 per night approx.
You would soon make back the cost of your membership and save on site fees when not wildcamping.
The C&cc allow you to fill and empty on site for about £7 you can look on their site without being a member.

Hope this helps.

Hi Vera..

we did look into them when we had the caravan as we had to plan ahead as we are only really weekenders i'm not sure whether it would suit us now .. altho i do keep it in mind

thank you for the suggestion though :)

Stayed there a few years back, wasn't very busy. The pub does good food and even better local "real Ale":D Thing I remember most was all the rabbits:eek:

Had you considered staying at Roughtor? Great overnight spot

Bodmin moor

Hello Lisa and Jamie

We stayed there for one night on our way back North on the 17th July to fill up and empty, the camping area was enclosed by tall conifers so no views and restricted Morning /evening sunshine due to the width (approx 50mtrs)of the site.
Toilet facilities were ok but lights seemed to be on a timer, so it could get a little dark in swift order should you require a long shower.
As previously mentioned there are a wealth of Rabbits on site and wild birds (mainly Chaffinch)

Carry on a few hundred yards past the site and there is a pull off alongside Colliford lake where you can walk and probably wild camp, although the toilet facilities there have been closed due to what looks like a ***** presence at some time.
Trega? Mills just outside Plymouth has a very large carpark and good eating facilities and I think overnight parking,

Mick

We were hopeing for a nice view of the lake when going to sleep or waking .. we noticed the sign for it on our way back home and thought it would make a nice half way point for when we go down that way again ... i like rabbits so they wouldn't bother me lol

will have to look into both trega mills and roughtor thank you both ..i do think the next time we are down that way we will be heading for praa sands area as we have friends in penzance :)

We can save the annual cost of Camping and Caravan Club subscriptions in three nights by using temporary holiday sites (members only) compared with the expensive sites you describe.
I agree with Vera it's worth considering.
