2005 Peugeot Boxer : Wipers not self parking , no intermittent

Hi Everyone

I hope someone can advise....

The wipers were working fine till this weekend but now they wont self park and I have lost intermittent wipe functionality. Has anyone experienced similar issues and if so what was the fix? The van has only done 52000 miles so I imagine the wipers have had little use so I hope the motor should not be at fault. Could it be a relay issue - if so where is it located? I have tried Google but have drawn a blank.

The cheaper option would be to replace the relay (£5?) and if it doesn't fix then replace the motor (£70) from Euro car parts.

Thanks in advance

Thanks Chaps

I didn't even think about the stalk but before I pay £30+ for a stalk it might be worth trying the relay as they will only cost a few £. Any Ideas where the relay is and what colour (if there are a few in its location).also do you think its possible to swap the relay for another one in the van to see if it works (rather than buy one straight away)

Try the electrical side first.

I had to dismantle the mechanical linkage on my last van (Ducato) because it was seizing up in the 2 spindles that hold the wiper assemblies. A bit of emery and some grease sorted it out.

I had this, but on the Sprinter. It was the relay.

It could be anything from the contact in the wiper gearbox that says they are not parked, the relay or the switch.

Switch and gearbox seems unlikely, as you've lost two independent things (park and intermittent.)

Thanks again everyone

I hope it is the relay as its the cheapest fix - problem is I don't know where it is. Would like to try that first before getting a new stalk or motor.

Would the relay be with the fuses in the cab or near the motor/under the bonnet??

I would think you might find an answer to this problem on the Peugeot Forum its free to join

When I've had a suspected relay fail the third thing that I do is swap it with another one on the vehicle (or the wife's car if it is available) and see if the fault goes with it.
Doesn't cost anything and tells me a lot.

In case you want to know..
The first thing I do is to swear a bit, and the second is to sit down with a cuppa and think about the problem before reaching for the tool box.
These two have proved invaluable over the years.

HA! I've already done the swearing and had lots of tea, I have also swapped the relays in the fuse panels behind the dash but I am unsure if they have anything to do with the wipers.

If only I knew where the relay was, I have also posted this thread on the peugeot forum, so hopefully, someone will be able to point me in the right direction

Did you search for the problem on the Pug Forum or at least search for Wiper problems

From memory I think all the relays are in the Engine fusebox

i can't see it being a relay it will be your motor which will have 3 wires one is ignition positive, one is slow speed and intermittent and the other wire is fast speed if you check with a meter make sure the ignition is on and the wipers are off if you have a feed on one of the wires then it's your motor if no feed then check your fuse the ignition feed is there to enable the wipers to park

Surely if it was the motor they wouldn't work at all

Do check if there is a plastic plug on motor to harness then pull apart and clean,if this fails check with ohm meter and if alls well then i suspect the contacts in motor to which you can open and clean.

Thanks everyone

Thanks for all your input everyone

I am going to see if I can remove the motor and clean the connections at the weekend.

I emailed a chap who supplied me with a single seat from a low Milage relay. He said he will send me the motor from the same van and I can pay him if it cures the problem - if not I can send back - sounds good to me. He thinks it's a motor - if not he can send me the wiper control stalk. If I can find the relay in the engine bay I will also try swapping.

I am also wondering if the motor has damp/ water ingress?

I will update this thread when it's fixed as I think this issue is not unusual!

Out of curiosity do you park the van on a slope at home !!

Thanks - I can see the plug going into the motor (and have disconnected it) but I don't have a meter or even know how to use one but I guess when you say a feed - you mean a current? Can I use a bulb with a - and a + wire attached and use that to check if I have a feed?

yes - its parked on a a bit of a slope facing up the slope and has been parked on the drive since November with very little use as I am in the early stages of converting to a camper but lack of light and bad wether has stopped any progress!( I taxed it a week ago and took it out for a spin)
