Hi all, myself and a few friends of mine want to go wild camping at the start of june this year, We have all agreed on The Isle Of Skye.

We are all going by car from north london, essex. Some of us have a bit of experience with scotland, ben nevis and lomond. But this time round we are gonna be just setting up camp and chilling maybe a few miles hike nothing to much. Going to be doing a bit of fishing, beer e.c.t.

I gess what im asking is there anything I need to know before we set off will we need to by a fishing permit e.c.t. can we have an open fire for food e.c.t. we will be looking for a remote spot to camp.

Thanks all.

Hi Stuie

This site is about wild camping for motorhomes - so the advice you are after may not be forthcoming ...

Sorry :(

Sorry about the last post. Seriously tho' We all want to do nthe pioneering bit, back to nature etc., and it is a dream that is never very well thought out. Have you considered the possible change in weather conditions while you are there.? The supply of fuel to keep the camp fire burning? Are you also intending to eat from the land? If so unless you are highly trained in this area you will starve. This country cannot and hasn't been able for hundreds of years to sustain pioneering types.
Any fool can live rough, but why not make the holiday more enjoyable with much more time for yourselves by taking a decent cooker with you? Used with a wind break it will do all you want it to do without having to trudge across miles of soggy bog looking for a bit of dry dead wood to light a fire with. Even in my long distant walking days, I always took a tommy cooker with me and cooked my own food.

Hi Stuie,

I think the best advise you will get on this site for touring Scotland is to get yourself a Motorhome. You can stay warm dry away from the midges and you will have a fridge to keep the beer in.:)

Stuie, i don't know much about pitching tents but I know you need a licence to fish most loch's, if you do a quick google on fishing in Scotland there are loads of sites that tell you where you can or cant fish, Fort William harbour is a good place without a licence, my fella caught some fab mackerel there, As for lighting fires, again it will depend on where you go, the beaches are ok i guess but I know the FC are clamping down on wild campers because of the mess they leave behind, wilding in Scotland website gives some really good advice on how to behave and where its safe to pitch tents. Some Crofters may let you stay on their land for a small donation, you could ask. We stayed at many places, too many to mention but one place in particular was Oldshoremore, there's toilets and plenty of hiking and loads had pitched up tents on the beach, look for member called Guernsy Donkey, he is very helpful when it comes to Scotland as he lives there.
Hope this helps a little
Good luck and enjoy:wave:
