Earlier this year the Glo plug light on the dash started staying on
Not a major problem in itself but the ecu got upset about it and told the semi auto robot change gearbox to only work in manual mode.
I finally got round to changing the glo plugs and I post here in the interests of shared knowledge
After hearing all the horror stories of plugs breaking while trying to get them out they actually came out very easily. The airfilter box needed to be removed but one jubilee clip and a couple of rubber clips is all that holds it in place. 2 star head screws hold the pipe carrier in place and once these were out it could be pulled aside enough to give access. The electrical connections were a bit stiff to remove but just pull off. I gave a good blast with an airline around the top of the plugs to remove any loose crud.
Its really tight to get a socket in (10mm) and I ended up with a long reach 1/4 drive job from amazon.
(I also got the new glo plugs, a 3/8 drive torque wrench, a 3/8 to 1/4 drive adapter, a tube of ceramic grease, and some spray electrical contact cleaner)
I sprayed a load of wd40 around the top of the plugs, I had planned to do this a few times over a couple of days but tried a gentle pressure and they came undone with no bother.
I checked the new plugs were the same as the old ones and fitted them quite simply. I torqued them back up to 12nm , reasembled the air box etc and all worked well with the dash lights behaving and gearbox back to normal. Happy days and I think I must have saved a few quid.
I checked the old plugs with a multimeter and 3 showed a resistance and one was open circuit
