    Using the gears to slow

No problems locking in lower gear on an autobox coming down steep hills. Used to worry me a bit not knowing what RPM the engine was doing so fitted a gauge. Had the Kielder forest road all to myself last year, so was playing with low range descents. As there is nothing very steep, quickly got...

    LiFePO4 Charge rates

Due to the vagaries of solar, my charge curve didn't look quite as stable as that, but it followed the pattern and has now moved through bulk, absorption and is now in the float phase. Thanks for the info, it allowed me to stop worrying that I was about to set my little van on fire :) Out of...

    LiFePO4 Charge rates

That's really useful. I am seeing a slow increase in voltage, so looking good. Going to have to take a look at the 12v charger, something very odd going on with that.

    LiFePO4 Charge rates

Thanks Wildebus. It's the Base. The Infinity would have been my preferred choice, but not in stock. Thanks for the description, that sets my mind at ease. It is certainly what I am seeing from the solar controller. If it had of been at 50% on delivery, I make that around 640wh that needs...

    LiFePO4 Charge rates

Hi, Following the sudden and unexpected early death of my AGM leisure battery, I have bought a Poweroad 100AH LiFePO4 battery (wasn't first choice, but was the correct physical size, price seemed good for Li and in stock!). But the way my chargers are behaving is making no sense not me, based...

Getting nervous in my old age.

Try the MyLPG.eu app on your phone, will give you up to date info. Shell are sadly phasing out LPG at their garages, both my local ones now gone. I type too slow...

    Noisy diesel heaters.

I was camped up in Kielder recently, so very quiet environment. There was a VW probably 10m away. We both had our heater's on. Their's was considerably noisier than mine and could still be heard quite close to my van, over the top of mine. I have both an inlet and exhaust silencer and the...

33 is good for a Dyna. Which engine? Guessing it's a TD. My HiAce gets an average of 23. It did 27 before I lifted it and put on big A/Ts, but there's an element of speedo inaccuracy in both numbers.

Ah, no different van. But I think maybe the same guy? (I don't know him, but he's done a few HiAces I think)

Similar style, but slightly larger are the Toyota Dyna based motorhomes (sometimes called CamRoad). Seen a couple of 4wd ones, one was for sale recently. 2.8D n/a, auto and manual 4wd system is the same as in my HiAce, so it will be slow and thirsty, but generally reliable. Those Mitsi's are...

my dream 'camper' (Iveco Daily 4x4) ..... only bother with video if interested in 4x4/overlanding

And on the subject of Mogs, was camped up next to this one last year in France. The tyres were cracking and I remember having nightmares about how much that was going to cost, before waking up and realising it wasn't mine :D

Completely as an aside, there's a YouTube channel called Itchyboots. Dutch lady motorbiking around on a Himilayan, although she's swapped to a Honda while she's waiting to get back to the Americas. The latest one is worth watching, if for nothing else, the collection of vans and trucks getting...

    Delicas... some vehicles......

I sold my old wheels and tyres to a Delica owner who'd put 40" tyres on his and found it wouldn't go in his workshop! I think the Delica being discussed above is in action in this YouTube from HiAce Hobo. HiAce and Delica in Spain

Suggestions for the cream of WC spots in Scotland?

So many to choose from... A couple of favourites are CR Loch Trool (great base from walking up Merrick) and CR Gleann Moor. Not a wild spot, but on the southern bank of Loch Ewe there is a community campsite. No facilities except bins, £5 a night. Wide sandy beaches. hth

    Isle of Wight

Went over last week, £86 return for a 5m long, 2.7m tall van on Portsmouth/fishbourne route through c&c club. Can't say felt particularly packed in, no more so than cross channel. Some lovely quiet sleepy spots, interesting history stuff (military, maritime, rockets!), dinosaurs, coastal...
