Hi my family, This year, providing we pass our MoT, we want to go to Ireland, although I'm a Hopwood I was born a McCarthy and most of my ancient roots are in the Waterford / Wexford area (in fact a cousin was a a priest there) Can anyone offer any guidance or suggestions ? I'm the last surviving member of the family so have no-one to ask, so dear folks.....help
Ta Peter

There are wild camping locations, near Waterford

There's usually vans there.
They love to give you tips and advice.
Take care how you dispose of your domestic waste.
Baltimore is a nice stop over, as is Bantry.
Any decent size pub will have live music and should normally let you stop overnight.
Some have aire facilities.
Gotta have a crack at the Wild Atlantic Way.
Safe travels.

Christina's cousin is married to a McCarthy but now lives in Cork, just think we may be ballop related. 😉😂

We’re hoping to go over to Ireland in September Peter. My maternal grandparents originated from County Roscommon, so hoping to have a look around the village they came from. Don’t know how long to go for, I suppose it depends what we manage to find, but we’re prepared to stay while the weather holds.
We’re using a publication by Ordnance Survey Ireland called ‘Official Road Atlas Ireland’ which shows everything very clearly indeed, and also highlights the Wild Atlantic Way which we intend to have a crack at. Maybe not all of it, but we hope to give it a good go. Good luck with your search, it could prove very interesting.

Try and do kylemore abbey which is north from Galway.

How long are you going for? (very important info)
My family are fro Wexford so know the area!
How big is your rig?
Where do you live?
The wild Atlantic way on the west coast is the most beautiful place on earth (in my opinion!)
I can give you a route that we have done and it was spectacular
you can come into Rosslare and head to Waterford for your first night then to Linsale in Co. Cork
and pick up the wild Atlantic way there

take your time otherwise you'll miss so much

If you do come into Rosslare, it helps if you have a definite overnight stop to aim for.

We used Johnnie Foxes Pub.
Google it.

They are very motorhome friendly.
We had to drag ourselves away, after 2 nights of bad weather.
Fantastic venue.
We booked for the cabaret night ,a month later, before our planned departure.

The waitress still remembered us and we got a discount .
A must do..

Our trip will be open ended in our 5m 75 geriatric tin tent

We went last September/October intending to do the WAW and a bit more.
In the event, we did a full lap of the island (including stops at Wexford and Waterford).
Absolutely loved it (but for some appalling weather 🤣).

Absolutely take your time....We had 7 weeks to go from Cork to Donegal. By week five we were halfway up Clare...
Regarding rubbish there's big fines for putting any household rubbish in public bins. We tend to wait til we have a bin bag full and take to a local recycling centre. About 5 euros I think. Also lots of aires now for that sort of thing.
There's a nice aire just north of Wexford at Blackwater. It's a stud farm so you can sit and watch mares and foals in the next field. Need levellers though. It's on search for sites.

We've been twice and hoping to go again soon if I can get an Auto van, we used this to find places, it was good but not used it for about 3-4 years.
