This years Epic Summer trip

A day in the Dordogne then. Only went about 12 miles to Chateaux Biron just over the border into the Dordogne then a ride to the Bastide villages of Villereal followed by lunch in Monpazier. 24 hours of Bastide villages and thats enough for me. Boring. :D Weather has been reasonably pleasant but I'm just not feeling it here. We used to love the Dordogne many years ago so will give it a chance. Hopefully ill get the Kayak out or hire one when we get to the Dordogne or Vezere rivers.

I think after so many weeks doing exciting mountain stuff, epic rides etc which is pretty much all I like to do these days it feels a bit dull. On the plus side at Villereal market I got the best piece of ripe Brie de Meaux I have ever had on this entire trip to France so there is that. :D

Just debating whether to fit in some coast on the way back to the UK, drive straight up through the Loire or the curve ball head east a bit up the Massif Central to Auvergne and the Morvan regional park in Burgundy for a few more mountains (Well hills in Burgundy) before coming back up round the eastern side of Paris. Providing the bike keeps going we will head to Dorset and Devon now on our return to the UK I think.

The premier spot :D

LOOOOOSERS! And they were here before us! Actually most of them have naffed off.

Here you go Marie. Not much exciting stuff going on now. I got a bit bored in the Dordogne but maybe just need to slow down and chill a bit. :D

Tremolat then. Not stayed here for yonks. Lovely little village but its definitely got that out of season feel which actually is quite nice. Couple of bars and Restaurants open but the campsite closed on the 27th of August. The Aire though is right in the centre of the village. Only us on it. :D All we did yesterday is have a rake around and a trip on the bike round the bend of the river to Mauzac where EDF have a large Weir presumably for generating power. This creates a deep, wide and slow section of the Dordogne where you can sail, water ski etc. Later we headed over to Limeuil to the east of here which is another "Beaux Village" Actually its quite nice. You used to be able to park up by the river there but now oddly the only vehicles allowed to park there are motorcycles. :D

It decided to chuck it down at Limeuil but thankfully we had the right gear on. Well top halves at least, bottom halves were still shorts and flip flops.

Enjoying the peace and quiet at least.

Yeah I'm sh*t hot again me you know! I'm having to fight off all these French chicks, especially when they find out I'm a rock God. Well I say "fight them off". Why the feck would I do that?

Me and Uncle Tim are having a competition I think. :D Im not worried about him taking all the French chicks though. :ROFLMAO:

Not a bad day. Moved about 30 miles east into what is classed as one of the major touristy areas of the Dordogne. Busier but not overly so. Been here loads of times in the past. The stretch from Baynac / La Roque Gageac to Vitrac and Sarlat. Tootled around on the bike, did the trudge round the Beaux villages and castles, did an hours work in the van for a change and went into Sarlat for shopping and something to eat. I actually quite enjoyed it. Pretty chilled and laid back day really and I made a few quid. :D (Yesterday as well now I mention it) Weather just about behaved itself. Set to be warm and sunny tomorrow I think.

The Aire we used to always stay on at Monfort (Vitrac) is no longer an Aire and parking it says is restricted to 12 hours. Not quite sure how that will work or be enforced but I guess we will find out at 11:30pm which is 12 hours since we arrived. :D Three other vans here now.

Domme early in the morning tomorrow and Breakfast there hopefully, market day in Sarlat then a new Aire we have not used before north of Sarlat. That may well be the last one in the Dordogne unless its crap and we have to find something else.

i am not into french chicks baz,, too many of em have hairy armpits  YUK

We preferred the caves at Peche Merle to Lascaux which was a bit impersonal. Peche merle you actually get into see it for real, whereas Lascaux is a mock up.
Like La roque, often get a bit of canoeing done. Sometimes the balloon flights in the evenings can be interesting.
Sarlat has a market, I think, on Wednesday, but the Saturday one is the one to go to. You can stay overnight at the big Carrefour just on the north side of the town and walk, or scoot into town. Or the rue Paul Verlaine.

Have you been to the Lascaux caves? That's a good visit, and there's an aire a short walk/bike trip from it.

No but we did these a fair few years ago and they were superb. Tomorrow is going to be an outdoors day though I reckon and I think we will move north soon after that

I visited Padirac many years ago too, it is breathtaking.

We did the Grotte too, absolutely amazing experience. We walked down the scaffold type stairwell to the bottom, then onto the subterranean electric boats to start the tour. On the return to surface, we took the elevator. Was there an elevator there to use when you guys visited?

If you mean Padirac then yes there was. I think it was 2010 when we first did it
