Toll Roads in France

We are limited for time as 'er indoors is still working, so we use tolls to get to the area we want to explore. With 18 days in September, I certainly don't want to waste days in villages we have seen and roundabouts we have driven through. We use the Sanef tag. The bill is paid the following month, so gives us chance to recharge the bank account.

So do you get a bill to pay, and don't need the SEPA compliant account?

I use the Fulli tag, it works in France Spain. Portugal and Italy, it is paired with my Revolt card and payment is taken out automatically,. I went down this route because on a toll in France I had to get out of the van to access the machine on the opposite side of the drivers window, I inserted my toll ticket, paid with my card but by the time I had got back in the cab and fastened my seat belt, the barrier closed trapping me, the cars behind me were not amused, I had to press the call button for about 5 minutes before someone answered, and guess what,he could not speak a word of English and hung up on me, 10 minutes latter a traffic officer turned up and I explained what had happened but he did not believe me and said that I must have a toll ticket or it is a 90 euro fine, I got my phone and opened the banking app, were the payment was showing, he never said a thing and opened the barrier for me to go, the tag makes life so much easier, just approach and the barrier lifts up for you to drive through 👍

It is set up as a normal payment, but of course, Sanef have an office in the UK, which is used for tag accounts. I guess that is why there is no problem with payment. But I do have to add, a UK office was why we went with them, just in case of problems.

Does it also work on all the toll roads, or only the ones operated by Sanef?

AFAIK all the tags work on all the toll roads. Certainly the Sanef one does as we had one before I switched to Bip&Go.

We’ve also been using the small toll on the A14 at Rouen for years, as it really saves time and only costs 3 euros. Now with the booths scrapped, it’s more complicated since you need to set up an account or pay later at a post office. We also tried the online method but nothing has gone through. The “tags” you’re asking about are electronic toll transponders that automatically charge your account when passing through. Similar convenience as when using a bus charter like BCS Bus for smooth travel.

Hi, like you we always this toll for convenience. We also had trouble setting up the payment. Firstly it was because we owed them for 2 trips there and back and had not managed to pay. So before we could finish and set up the account we had to pay our debt. We did this by just following thier link. We manged to finish set too after paying by following a members advice and putting into search engine Sanef.com. It all came up in English and away we went. Just remember you have to send a picture of your log book . Be the registered owner and state the registration number of your vehicle is british ie clicking Grand Bretagna as the country of origin.
If you follow all that then you should have no problems. Obviously you have to register a card to have it taken out straight away but you will get an email each time you go through and they take payment.
Good luck. pj
