In May I am off to the Alsace region of France. I have done some research- eg: I can't go to Strasbourg because of the clean air zone.
I would appreciate any tips if you have been.

Its been a while but its all quite nice if you like twee villages and rolling green hills etc. If you are over that way its probably worth a trip a bit further south into Jura also. The villages and towns in Alsace are prettier but I think the scenery is better in Jura and top Cheese country! :D

If you nip into Lorraine I can recommend the aire in Gerardmer. It's €6-7 for the night and just off the town centre. It's free if you have a Blue Badge. No facilities except bins and toilets but there is a MH service point 100m up the road or so. It's a nice town with a lake for walking around or hiring a boat. The town centre has an old fashioned merry go round and a some nice outside bar areas.

If you do go I can recommend The Grizzly for food. They do this 14 inch spike of various meats and fame it in brandy for you at the table. Reasonable prices too.

Also we stopped in Metz for a couple of nights last September. There is a municipal campsite with an aire right next to it which are only 5 mins walk to the city centre. It's a lovely city and the first monument is only 100m from the campsite/aire. We visited the Cathedral and then took a city tourist train thingy which has English commentary and visits 45 places of interest across it's route...so worth doing as you could then decide if you want to explore any of them further. Cracking indoor market too. We got some of my favourite merguez sausages there. Nom!!

If you get down to Mulhouse the Schlumpf Museum is a must see if you like cars. It's the National Automobile Museum.

Then there is Munster if you like cheese.

Colmar is a lovely little town for wandering around too.

I found a really old Blog I did for the Alsace. The site is a mess as it got messed up when Google changed it but you might find some useful info (probably not). A few daft photos further down.

All of it is superb, but not to miss places are, eguisheim, kayserburg, riquewihr, Colmar, ribeauville, obernai, natzwiller concentration camp, wissembourg. Strasbourg is a stunning city and has a municipal campsite outside the city which has a bus stop outside. 10 - 15 mins in by bus.

Thanks very much. I have already done some research on Mulhouse and Colmar so definitely going there.
