The 'left hooker' is a deliberate choice to help make that push across the Channel in the not-too-distant future, Ruth! ;)

Meanwhile, still one step at a time... ;)

We're making a small adventure out of picking up our new (old!) van on Monday (can you tell we don't get out much?! :lol-049:)
Just booked cheapo bus tickets for Saturday (£22.50 one way for the two of us)
9:30am from Durham down to Victoria Station. Approx. 6 hour trip.
Take tube to Neil's sister's place in Sheen. Saturday night & Sunday chilling in London
Early doors Monday morning (after rush hour though!) take tube to Harlow, taxi ride to dealers, check everything that needs checking before heading back home in van - avoiding the A14 this time!
:ninja:
Van insurance sorted today.
Hope the snow stays away...
:scared:
Excited... !

Good luck with the van and have a good adventure down and back. One point,You cannot get a tube to Harlow.

I know, wrong terminology! (I really must pay more attention to things I spout :lol-053: )

The line is above ground to Harlow, not below. It's still a journey by train ;) :)

The train line to Harlow is not that good.

The train line OUT of Harlow is much more appealing :D

Get the dealer to pick you up from the station. It's the least they can do if you're spending your hard earned with them.

A very good point.

The chap I bought my T5 from when I got the train down to London picked me up from Kings Cross to take me to West London to check it over.
And as a handy bonus, I was able to get a feeling how he would have treated it going by the way he drove (normally!) and the state of the vehicle we were in (Sprinter minibus that I thought was virtually new, but was actually over 3 years old with fairly big miles).

I think London is a Fantastic place

When I see it in my rear view morro on my way home.

Enjoy your trip.
Ken

So, this old Laika van has a 6 speed gear box?

Being new to Ivecos I didn't think to ask if this was standard at the time, and tbh I didn't check the dash or gears myself, left this to Neil and the pal who came with us to view it. Kicking myself now, and old enough to know better than to leave the checking to others - 'specially Neil! ;) :)

It appears that 5 speed gear boxes were fitted into Laika ecovips from 1998-2002, so I'm a bit confused and need to speak to the dealers shortly.

I think they are advertising it as a 6 speed box, but counting reverse gear in that number?!

It certainly didn't look as though it had messed about with or anything other than the totally original engine and gearbox!

I took a video of the engine when it was running, might see if I can upload it somewhere for a look-see...

Ok, here's short vid I took of the Iveco engine running. Doesn't give you that much of an idea mind, sorry! :)

Forgot to mention the van has also had red oxide applied underneath from when it was new, is that a good thing or not?

Fairly sure Ivecos had a 6 speed option by around 2000, perhaps just on the 2.8's though. If it has The AGile automatic gearbox I'm fairly certain it will be a six speed. 7 including reverse :p

morning marie and neil......you will be well on your way by now.........WOOOPEEE......GOOD LUCK........ALL WILL BE FINE.......

Morning all.

So.... update!

Back from Londinium, but NO CAMPER!

After lots of agonising & discussion over the last few days we decided that particular model was not what we wanted after all, so didn't go ahead and buy in the end.

Lost deposit, obviously, but dealer says if he sells it on for their full asking price we will get it back, also if we find any other camper from them in future that fits our bill then the money will go towards that. Not grumbling at all about this, because I knew they were terms and conditions right from the off, and better to have lost that amount than spend a much bigger irreplaceable chunk of money on something that definitely wasn't right and regret it longer term.

Fairly sure we are both due a tax rebate of some sort come April. Now thinking we could use the extra money to get a van that does suit what we want. My fault really as we should have waited, but I get very impatient at how slowly everything moves round here at times.

So the search is still on, meanwhile back to the grindstone :hammer::)

Anyway at least enjoyed trip to Londinium, no way would want to be there full time, though ;)

Sorry for the anticlimax, peeps, after all the build up!!:mad1:
