I am very glad I found and joined this site just over a year ago. Today it is fifteen years old.
To me it would be interesting to have a bit of a history lesson as to the founding of and early days of Wildcamping.
Maybe stories of initial ideas for Wildcamping or small groups discussing the possibilities on a meet/gathering.

I used to read the threads for quite a while before signing up and posting. I remember thinking how nice it would have been to attend some of the very informal early meets but didn't have a van then.
Be good to see if any of those with one of the first thousand numbers are still active here or still wilding.

Using the search facility I've looked at some old threads, and indeed there are some early members still going, in this example jann, no 27 posts and is still a full member. Most from 2004 seem to appear as guests now. This thread began in 2004 but was resurrected a few years later. https://www.wildcamping.co.uk/forums/motorhome-chat/145-get-together.html?highlight=Meet
It is good to look at some of the earliest posts on the forum and see how it has evolved since 2003.

I was the same Bill.

I was searching around on the internet for a van when I came across this site and followed it for a long while before signing up.

I eventually bought a van and went to my first meet at Greywell. I had a few electrical problems with the van and Phil came over and immediately got stuck in under the bonnet. After about half an hour, he had replaced some wires and fuses and everything was fixed. Despite getting covered in grime and skinning his knuckles, he wouldn't even let me buy him lunch for his trouble. I met a few people and soon realised what a great sense of community existed and I was hooked!

Just had a wander through old posts and the oldest member appears to be Kontiki, no 32 and also clarkpeacock at 244. Nice to see some early members are still here.

When I first looked at WC many moons ago, it didn't look up to much, years later I had another peak and it had improved immeasurably. I sat on the side line for another 3 years or so, just having a peak every now and then until finally taking the plunge. Best £20 I have ever spent although Busty Brenda comes a close second:angel:

Jann is still a full member, number 27.

It seems as if a few people sat on the fence so to speak because I did exactly the same before joining up,it seemed as if it just kept popping up and I would just to a look. But I’m so pleased that I found it it’s good craic and a laugh at the posts!

I remember that meet Rob. Wasn't it when you'd just got your Drifter and the fridge not working threw up an electrical problem? I hadn't realised it was your first meet though! I also remember Phil under your bonnet trying to sort out the electrics and how impressed Martin and I were at people rolling up their sleeves to help. I seem to remember a couple of people sorting out some fuses for us too. Happy days... and they still are thumb.gif

That was it Jennie, and yourself and Martin, plus Sue and Martin were some of the first members I met.

Many happy memories of those days and look forward to more to come.

There may be other ways, but one way is to enter a word in the search, then go to the last page of results, they are normally in chronological order.

I had just bought my van and looking for info on bits and bobs, then this site and folks seemed to be a helpful happy freindly lot,so down went my dollar,at the time i did not know how big it was or so many on it,but good it is and i have met some of the nice folk here on my own soil,do come back folks.

It’s possible a few of the earlier members are now....”Digging up Daisies”!

I think you mean "pushing up daisies" Mike!

I see I joined in 2011 so I've only been here 50% of the time. ;)

There was a lovely old chap with the forum name of Guernsey Donkey. John has not posted fr a long time and I fear the worst for him. He would be getting on for 80 (or even older) and had a few health problems. I always looked forward to his posts.
