Just had my van MOT'd and serviced, and the garage inform me that it will now not start. I have had a couple of problems with the immobiliser before in that the 'Lock' light stays illuminated and the ignition switch will not work, I usually get around this by pressing the fob button a few times and it eventually works. But this time, the ignition is turning the engine but the immobiliser is not letting fuel through.

I have given them all the keys I have, but none of them seem to deactivate it. Anybody had any similar problems?

It is a 1997 Fiat Ducato 2.5D. (Compass Drifter Merit 310).

Garage ?.

Rob does the garage not have any idea what it is. They must come across lots of problems like this over a year. One temporary solution would be to put a supply onto the solenoid of the fuel cut off valve. Its messy because you would have to put a switch in line or disconnect it to stop the engine. I would have thought the garage would have a fix for it even if it was for new parts. Hope it passed its MOT after all this.

Yeah it's passed the MOT Tom.

They are scratching their heads at the moment, they reckon that this type don't normally go wrong. I've said to them if they can't get round it, just bypass/get rid of the immobiliser if possible, but I thought I would throw it around on the forum just in case there was a quick solution.

Hopefully they will come up with something soon!

Found this on the Fiat Forum Rob, I doubt it is worth spending money to repair it if you are selling it

Sounds like keys are out of tunr rob a code is reqiured do you have a credit type card with a four digit pass on it if not contact peugeot to obtain it to access ecu and bsi to retune keys

Thanks Gordon. I think my van predates that sort of system. It's more of a Flinstone type van!

I will mention it to the mechanic though, just in case!

Rob, Tezzas link is to the 2.8 jtd engine not the 2.5.

Do a search on the Fiat Forum as I remember reading that the 2.5 immobiliser is easy to bypass, much less complicated than the 2.8.

Best of luck.

In that case fit a switch to the dash with spots written on it and as terry said by pass the gittttt

I just scrapped a Nissan Micra with a new MOT because the immobiliser went wrong.

I read everything on the internet and spent days finding hidden modules behind the dash board and heater box.

All I can say is don't believe everything you read on the internet.

Good job you did not have the welding done.

I was lucking finding a guy who needed my car to complete an export order and got £125.

The value of scrap is at an all time low.

Keep us updated, and good luck.

The early 2.8's with indirect injection without the electronics were the same as the 2.5, the link was direct to post #3 which started with
Have done a lot of early 2.8s. If your system is the same, it can be bypassed,
Thread was about a 2.8 but that post gave the instructions for the early 2.8 which should be the same as Robs, I couldn't find one exactly for the 2.5

I also found this

Yes, my mistake Terry.

I shall now go and beat myself with stinging nettles to ensure I never do it again.

if its the old type injection pump you can take the protaction shield off to access the cut off
solenoid and wire it direct to the ign. switch. the protection shield is quite tricky to access
but if you look for the screws with a mirror to loosen them then lever the rest off with a small
lever that gets the security bit off then you can see the one live wire to the pump solenoid.

I've just spoken to the mechanic again. He has tried to get the protection shield off, but it has tamper proof shear screws. I somehow get the impression that he is getting just a tad pi55ed off with it.

He said he is giving up for today, and will try again tomorrow, I think a little brute force is going to come into play somehow!

Lock it all up remove the keys and open the bonnet remove the battery lead, replace it after a few seconds and open everything up again then try it. keep your radio code though. It might have got a bit confused and some lock items open others closed. use the key to make sure they are ALL locked then open all up again.

Thanks. I'll certainly ask him to give it a try in the morning.

Ok. Here's an update. Just been up to pick up the van, and the outcome is;

Immobiliser knackered. Circuit had corrosion due to water ingress, therefore a bypass needed. This has been done, and I now have a brand new immobiliser system.

With all the other work (Full service, MOT, New Discs, new pads, Shocks etc) the bill was as eye watering as I expected! (About £730), which is a lot of beer tokens!

However, the work had to be done, so after a bit of sucking of teeth etc. I whipped out my card.

"No need Rob", says Darren on the desk.

Somewhat perplexed I asked why,

"I understand it's your birthday, and your missus has already rang up and paid the bill as a present".

I nearly cried!

I bet you are wishing you had told them to respray it as well now Rob:lol-049:
Good result though
