Keeping warm

I have a very basic panel van conversion. No on board built in heating. Not even a built in cooker. When wild camping what's the best heating source. Got very damp and cold last week

Get a man or failing that a water bottle but to be serious for once we don't have heating we bought a camping fire that is 2 kW and takes through away canisters, last 2 hours on high heat but in our transit have on low and keeps us warm. It was only £20 and well worth the money people will tell you no here it's a big no because of veterlation but we got so many vents in our van mainly down to the rust we live on to the next day lol

Could do with more information, such as, is it a petrol or diesel van. Do you carry gas bottles, in a properly constructed housing. What approximately are you willing to pay. How much space for the heater.

Grrrrrrr I knew someone more intelligent than me would answer

It's diesel. I can carry gas, but no proper housing. I have space behind passenger seat. Willing to pay anything, able to pay 100 quid

To be honest, I think I bought a bit of a dud, but I still love her. The plumbing wasn't working, the leisure battery won't fully recharge, the wiring for the lighting is trailing all over the place. The wiring for the water pump wasent even connected to anything. Ok. I was a bit green when I handed over my money, but no regrets. Been down to Spain twice with no problems. Just need to spartan up the old girl and make her more user friendly

Yes I did same with my old girl sent for a weekend spa girly thing 😁 now I better hide lol

You're not likely to get much choice for that sort of dosh. Would probably get you a used freestanding or fixed catalytic heater off eBay connected to whatever gas bottle you carry, but you do have to keep the van ventilated because Cats give off water vapour, result is condensation. They are usually fitted with Oxygen depletion sensors (safety device). Electronic ignition.
Better alternative is a Propex Heatsource 1600 Watt gas heater, again used off eBay but more like £200. Room sealed so very safe but 2 small holes needed thru' the floor for the air supply and exhaust c.40mm diam. and 12v connection for fan and ignition so you've got to have basic DIY skills to install or know someone who has.
Or you could just go and get more woolly jumpers.

Thank you Byronic for this info. I will investigate.

these Carver 1800 room heater, bench tested and guaranteed, for caravan (18001501) | eBay are great. i have a 3.2kw Webasto diesel heater, and one similar to this, they both heat the van to 'hot' in the same time
they need a bit of a hole in the floor, but only need a gas line,so no electrics needed
unlike webby, eber and propex etc, almost totally silent
once the van is hot, will keep warm with just the pilot light
seriously underrated.
