I've been searching for european breakdown cover for our Autotrail, but the problem is that all coverers will only cover vehicle height up to 3 meters and our cheyanne hiline is 3.05m, so what breakdown cover do you have.

none just arrange a local tow to a garage and get it fixed .
strangely there are repairers all over the world.

I think I would have a mental breakdown  if they took the tape out and measured mine ( It's 3.1m)

Last time I called them out they changed the wheel without need to measure the height.

I like the Idea of just getting it towed to the local garage, but if something major breaks I don't think my boss would be too happy if I said I'll be home two weeks late because I waiting for Manuel the mechanic to source me another engine. So I'll just ignore the 0.05m and say it's 3m.:p

Thanks.

my mate got recovered to a spanish garage with his truck last year his is 3,4 mtres . his clutch had gone .
he insures with saga and has breakdown cover with them . this year we went back to the garage and had a party.
his camper is an ex prison truck.
there is cover out there . look harder.
i would have towed him but flat towing isnt allowed in spain .
he got a full lift recovery.
we arrived at the garage just before dinner , they ordered the clutch . then went on siesta . at half four started the job at eight o,clock all done . we parked out side and had a party. this is on a daf 45 truck . great service .

ADAC.

As for garages on every corner - not so where I go. They sent a truck and took us 150km to the nearest workshop that could fix my problem

I joined ADAC the other week. Couldn't have been easier. Obviously not used it yet. It worked out for the two of us after exchange £85. It covers any vehicle we may be in so that gets rid of the need for RAC here at home for our cars

Beware of the 3m height limit, lots of experience of commercial recovery firms. If you have a puncture no problem, if you need towing to a local garage no problem, if your engine fails and you need recovery home from Spain they will get out of it if the possibly can, it's very expensive moving a large vehicle that far.

Just use ADAC limit limit no worries.

Mine is Via COMFORT Insurance, you have to be Insured with them to get it however , it is excellent cover , I used it when I lost a Clutch in Portugal, four nights in an Hotel on them and great service.

Mine is included in my insurance from Safeguard and includes supplying a driver to bring the van back home if I and my wife are physically unable to drive it through accident or illness. They specialise in motorhome cover, so height is not a problem.

That's good news, I'm with Comfort. Not been abroad yet with van but a "comfort" to hear they were good when we do in August.

My cover is a box of spanners and large hammer
I have been motoring at home and abroad forover 60 yrs and have never called a garage or repair man out yet---the only time my motor goes anywhere near a garage is for MOT
I have been lucky so far

We have a Motorhome Facts Insurance Policy, underwritten by Aviva with RAC European Recovery. They will bring us back to the UK if needed, the whole package is around £250, with protected no claims fully comp.

We had to call the RAC from Prague which turned into a mess, the joint broke on the exhaust. The mechanic who turned up wanted to buy a new exhaust from the UK and get it shipped over for 600 Euros but we ended up finding the Fiat (car) main dealer in the city. They fixed it while we waited and we handed over all the local currency we had about £20's worth, I think it went straight to the mechanic, exhaust is going strong 2 years later. RAC did apologise when we were home but for £20 I never bothered seeking compensation from them.

Ok for most but they have a clause about over 3.5 tonne abroad I seem to remember it limits you on recovery costs ??

No size or weight restrictions - but there is an age restriction. The motorhome has to be less than 20 years old.

Thanks for the tip about the Devis, David. Never heard of it before. I think generally people are wary of being ripped off by a garage (especially some women) in the UK, so add a a language problem and it seems even more problematic.

I struggle getting breakdown cover ,my Merc 508 is 4600 kg and 1987 vintage ,I believe ADAC will do it.
As far as self help goes we can all 'do a bit' the problem is getting off a motorway to do your bit.
