Ok this is aimed mostly at the ladies out there.
As my better half and i are going fulltiming next year the subject of hairdryers has been something i have been thinking about over the last couple of days.My idea has been to ditch the high output hairdryer and instead buy my wife something that can run on 500 watts which is the spec of my durite inverter.
Does anyone have any comments over the idea of buying her instead a volume air styler that styles and dries at the same time.I have heard good things about them .

There is one there that is 700 watts but has 2 settings.
I love my wife and so want to keep her happy whilst on the road:)

braun

I let my hair dry naturally then use a Braun Gas hair styler they use tiny gas cartridges and I find them brilliant for camping.

If you have blown hot air heating just fit a hose to the nearest outlet to the boiler and turn on,
Should be dry in no time, not sure about ability to style though!
if you shut all other vents it will speed up the process,

I would imagine that anything that involves a heating element at 500 watts would be as useful as blowing on her hair, and probably take as long. We find a CL or CS with electrics every 3 or 4 days to allow Chris to do those girly things and to empty the toilet and take on water. I'm not full timing though.

Get a light perm - wash, towel dry, and leave it to dry naturally. Don't need a hair brush, or dryer and lasts a year, with a few trims in between!

I do not know enough about the ins and outs of van electricity. I do have longish hair, that I have to dry with a dryer, and then straighten with straighteners. Anything less would really annoy me. Perhaps once or twice, I would put up with it, but in the long run no. Just my personal thoughts.

Adding to my reply, a small 500 hair dryer , would be no good at all. All it would do is frizz my hair, when it eventually dried it. Whilst in our van, I need to be on ehu to do my hair, or should it not happen , all I can think of doing was booking into a hotel for a night and do my hair there, or use good site facilities.

Oh bless you,you do sound like my wife, apparently if it isnt right i will be fulltiming on my own :( i have told her that i may have to buy a suitcase generator to power one.Could be costly:)

I just put the gas fire on and dangle my hair over top til dry, then use gas curler or straightener if needed. If I suggested going to a campsite or hotel for the night my other half would bugger off without me, and tbh I wouldn't blame him.

Hairdryer

We fulltimed in our motorhome for 18 months. I bought a 12 volt hairdryer but rarely used it as it drained the leisure battery ( or so my husband said! ). So the wind and sun became my hairdryer as we wildcamped all the time. :)

My Wife uses a 1600/800w hairdryer but we have a 1000w inverter so on the warm setting it works OK, if we go on EHU she uses the high setting but it dries quickly with either, I use a small square of tissue but that lasts a few washesView attachment 20939

I have longish hair, my tip for when I'm motor homing is to have some layers cut in then towel dry it, then twist it into a knot (on top of my head) and hold it in place with a scrunchie. I leave it to dry overnight and when I let it down in the morning I have a hairdo that looks straight out of a salon, curly, bouncy and easy to look after, if a little wild - a bit like a 1970's Farah Fawcett do. It's very low maintenance and a step up from the old days of camping in a tent when I just let it go all windswept and exotic (unkempt) or 'worm hair' as my son used to call it :lol-053:

I have mid length hair and have never been one of those luck ladies who can let there hair dry naturally or when I do it will take me forever and a day to tame down. I today bought one of those gas cordless brush and the some coco brownie dry shampoo (fantastic stuff) !! so hopefully I can keep it looking better when I am away.

On amazon I also saw some waterless shower caps for keeping hair fresh and clean ...if anyone knows hoe the hell these work please let know. :lol-053:

I totally understand the problem as my wife is more concerned about her hair than any other issues that may arise during our travels. She found the 12 volt dryer rubbish ,so if we are wilding I run the genie for 5 mins just to keep her happy ( if that's possible).

My wife has long hair and likes to keep it looking straight, wash, towel dry and as said before wind up on top of head and secure, when dry straighten with GHD straighteners, 45w, and looks good as.
