question re demountable as claasification as m home maybe a good question for vwalan

i insure it as a motorhome with adrian flux i never came across any aires with 3.5 t limit

hi paul thanks for your post no i should have been more clear i was refering to small towns and roads that have 3.5 t weight restrictions as i saw quite a few when i was in france for a week last motnh but to be hones ppl in large m homes were not taking much use of that it was more where it would fit than the weight
regards lee

after a lot of thinking i have made desons in two areas,

1 it needs t be demountable and preferbale be able to de mount in 10-15mins mins weather it be a box i covert or a demountable camper

2. the vehicle i plan to use will f course be a chassis rail and be 5-7.5 tonne but narrow isuzo type as vwalan if go for 7.5. this way the issuie of weight want be as much an issuie and it will open it up to larger american demountables.

got my licence pre 97 so that helps.

any ideas on choice of vehicle the iveco 6 tonne the merc vario , canter all have 3 seats up front i assume ?

i,m biased i know ,but it would be a mitsubishi canter or an isuzu nqr if it was me .
nice flat front . means less vehicle length .
look for a hook lift ,they do come on ebay.
mind wind down legs arent hard to get .
all depends where you might be going as well .certainly both those are evey where on the continent and very common in north africa .
if you wonder about spares google k,s, international... they carry japanese new spares and very good prices .

hi alan
yes not thought about the diffrence in lengh with a canter, also alan do the isuzu and canter have a tilt cab and if so do you find them easier to work on than say a iveco in terms of access

single cabs tip. the double cabs dont . but do come with the front tipping pivot . i keep thinking of getting some rams and making mine tip.
its much easier to work on the engine and box if you can tip the cab . have seen a few d-cabs been adapted . as you can manage with a single cab i would go for canter/isuzu daily,s are ok but not quite trucks .
do you really need to demount the camper .?
i see curtain siders going cheap. doesnt cost much to fill in the sides . wood frame cellotex and plastic coated steel outside . worth thinking about .

trouble with sprinters is the chassis rust on chassis cabs . not so bad on the vans . plus the 160 motor as problems .
shame as they seem alright . but i know of lots with really bad chassis corrosion .

think many of us watched that one .
mind to be honest i wouldnt want a trailer that length .
think 26 ft is as long as i would go.
mine is 20ft . it can sneak all over the place . but could manage a 18ft -26ft .
they are easy to shorten though .
you do need to keep it manageable and not restricted to main roads .
i keep thinking of a 4x4 under mine but i think i do take mine to the edge sometimes . there are limits to where you can go. well so they tell me .ha ha

Didn't realise Iveco did a 4x4 on the Daily that didn't look like an off road vehicle.

have a look here. makes your mouth water
didnt you see the pics of kevins daily 4x4 that caught in the tornado in silvas in portugal last year. ?

:) Yes seen plenty of those, look at them all the time, in fact they are 2nd on my wish list, lol

What I meant was, the Daily in the ebay link, the mini artic, doesn't look like a 4x4.

That's my dream van. Daily 4x4 with expedition body. Trouble is they are like Rocking Horse s*** in the UK.

dont know . i did see it . there as been a few mini artics on ebay .
that one would have been nice . north east truck n vans do the conversions for iveco as far as i know .
have spoken to them a few times .
i went for the mitsubishi canter as i knew it was made in portugal and morocco . so thought handy for spares . mind they have changed to the fuso now .
in portugal they also build the toyota dyna they do some nice versions over there . we had a ride in the first 4x4 they have brought out . we just happened to be visiting the works at the time .
if you are ever over there call in .its in olho marinho. not far from peniche . we was just passing and stopped being nosey . ended up with a walk round the factory.

Love this one, not to big and nicely made. One of those on a Sprinter/Crafter will do me nicely, not that I'd turn my nose up to a Daily, decisions decisions, lol ( I wished )

More used Daily 4x4's on the market in Germany, easy to import. LHD a bonus, hopefully will be away on the continent more. Pretty certain my next van will be a German import.
