Lack of common sense?

True, the guy is an idiot but why is it that one idiot motorhome driver can spoil it for the rest of us, yet one idiot car driver doing a similar thing doesn't turn the local community against cars?

What can you say in defense of Numpties like this?

They shouldn't be allowed to drive anything bigger than a Smartcar (no offence to Smartcar owners).

And there is the problem of course Old Arthur....we don't know the facts behind this...was this posed?...was it a breakdown and shifted off the road?...puncture in a wheel out of view?.....someone take ill on board needing a stop at the first opportunity for a moment?.....but the damage is done regardless.

It looks like a neat bit of reversing to me.

Not easy with a big van. :lol-061:

and as an avid motor homer I was on the side of the motor homes but not any more

There's no excuse for the parking in question... but the quote mimics the classic tactic of pretending you are part of a group in order to make your opinion against that group carry more weight.

I'm not saying that's actually the case, but it makes you wonder.

if his van is on a blue badge, is he allowed to park like that, I've seen some big motorhomes doing similar and showing a badge.

I also know quite a few badge holders who park properly too...so no guns please. only asking

Maybe the driver isn't British - they could be hiring locally, bringing valuable foreign currency into the country. Lost & alone in a strange country & struggling to leave the vehicle somewhere. Anyone been in taht situation in France? Are you sure you never break Continental traffic rules? :drive:

I don't think you would be allowed to park like that even with a blue badge, it's not a safe place. He's almost right on the junction which reduces the vision splay. That cross hatching is to ensure some vision splay next to the hedge. You may need to edge out with your front end to get a better view, and could cause a cyclist (for example) to swerve into the path of a following car.

Pith taking aside and hopefully a genuine mistake.

I once became dis orientated in Nottingham and set off up a one way wrong way before a policeman pointed out my error...( no ticket)

Had the officer asked to see my licence I could have been in deeper bother...because it states my town of birth you guessed it .......errrrm Nottingham....in my defence left when I was 5....

This unfortunately is not just a one off, and under the new rules, it will get worse, i have been to Whitby on many occasions, in the van and in my car, and seen some horrendous parking, its no wonder the locals have had enough, however, the new parking rules will not make the problem go away, people will just look to park on roads nearby until 7 am in the morning then move onto the seafront,

Good perspectives Chana and Jen.

I have been playing the system, street camping in Brighton since 1988. Gradually parking restrictions have become worse and worse, especially the residents parking slots which are both a cash cow for the council and a vote winner so who can blame them from this viewpoint.

Now resident's parking standard slot has become 9am to 8pm Mon to Sun which means it is impossible to get a street place at weekends and then go to play in the bridge tournament which starts at 8pm.

So I park out of town and get the bus in but crucially I am not patronising the pubs and restaurants late at night anymore. I get the bus back and have my food and drink in the van.

The council have satisfied one group but damaged the pub and restaurant trade from 6pm to midnight due to draconian parking espec at weekends. The residents are a bigger voice than the entertainment trade though.

Just seen this: Lack of common sense - Letters - Whitby Gazette

No wonder there is opposition to motorhome parking.

AndyC

This is the result of an ongoing discussion about motorhomes in the Whitby area and just goes to prove unless you as a group we can be sure that everyone follows the law, then we are open to criticism like this.
The person who left the motorhome illegally parked proberbly is unaware of the local situation but now all motorhome drivers will be though of the same as him/her.
I hope the person who took the photo and foreward it to the press also informed the police and had the culprit booked for parking. (But did this happen?, or was it just for publicity?)

Nottingham-Robin Hood,didn't you see the arrows?:0)

Illegal parking is illegal whatever the vehicle, but would car or a delivery lorry get its picture in the local rag?

It will not be long before Cleveleys sea front has a picture in the Blackpool Gazettte, 25 vans parked up Saturday 7th July at lunchtime.
