DPF cleaning

DON`T USE SUPERMARKET FUEL, shell v power works for me, runs like a dream. I was advised by a diesel engine tuner.

Probably needs your friendly garage to do a forced regen and an oil change. Additives and snake oil is only delaying the inevitable and wasting money. IMO.

A forced regen wouldn't work on Julies Peugeot Cal, probably too far gone.

We got a non OEM DPF (one which the garage recommended) at a much cheaper price than from Peugeot.

Why would deleting the DPF invalidate insurance? Not that I would do it but I can't see what relevance it would have in a bump.

It does not matter what any of us think Barry, insurance companies will always look for a way out and carrying out modifications to your vehicle without informing them is one way out.

I think it would be highly unlikely it would be discovered. For all any of us know we could be driving around in second or third hand vans that have had similar modifications or remaps perhaps and unless its in the service history we may never know just like the insurance company would never know. Don't get me wrong I am all for keeping a vehicle legal, I just think its an unlikely scenario.

The potential consequences are horrific.
I may be wrong, but the question asked by insurers includes are you AWARE of any modifications, or have you carried out any modifications. I would doubt if you were not aware if that would be a get out for them. But I don’t know.

The trouble is though Barry, it's likely that the DVSA are aware of this and at some point it wouldn't surprise me if they conducted roadside tests.

It's all over the internet about how to do this or people saying that they have done it and I'm sure they will be aware. Only a matter of time I reckon, it could be a nice little earner for them.

I reckon that as it's an MOT failure offence Bill they are likely to claim that the vehicle is unfit for the road?

The list of mods to declare,

• Tow bar
• Satellite dish
• Solar panel
• Inverter
• Lithium
• Cameras
• Bike/scooter rack
• Etc.

Which ones load the policy I wonder. I guess total loss claims with the extras, is the insured loss fully covered

For drivers, the penalty for driving a vehicle with the diesel particulate filter removed, are fines of up to £1,000 for a car or £2,500 for a light goods vehicle.

Undeclared illegal modifications (like removing a diesel particulate filter) could also invalidate a vehicle’s insurance, so it’s not just garages who could face serious consequences.

I expect it's because removing the DPF will also improve the vehicles performance, but I also read elsewhere that a vehicle without a DPF is considered unroadworthy. (RAC)

In the car i use Liquid Moly DPF Protector regular especially now that we don`t do the longer trips so often.

1 bottle every 3rd tank full ( approx 1,000 miles ) keeps it running as sweet as it comes.

I`m not saying everyone should do this and i`m definitely not getting into any discission with anyone about the whys and wherefores of additives.

I`m just saying i do this and it works brilliantly for my vehicle.

Thanks Graham, just ordered some.

For the price of a pint every 3rd tank I reckon it's worth it, I certainly don't want to be replacing the DPF again anytime soon.

My yeti regen light would come on every few days and never regen properly Cause WATER not getting up to temperature fitted a new thermostat now getting up to 90c and working as it should, Put a diagnostic devices on and now the DPF filter is all clear

You can take the DPF off and backflush it lots of information on Youtube Not a easy job on a Yeti

What I can't understand is why don't they have a dashboard light that comes on when regeneration is taking place and goes off once complete. That way you would never have to interrupt a regen.

We used the Redex dpf cleaner when our old car (15yrs) was sending lots of messages and the garage said to try as last resort before replacement , worked great . Now use it regularly on our new one as a preventative as don't really do long distances . Only put it in every three months... Also put it in the van from time to time in the summer when it gets fewer long runs.

On our VW Golf SV you can easily tell when it's doing s regen Rob, the engine note changes and the idle revs increase to approx 1000rpm from approx 750rpm.
