New (second hand) Motorhome

After 3 years out of the game (unfortunately had to sell my last MH due to cash flow problems 🙄) I'm setting off to collect my new (to me) one tomorrow. After looking for a few weeks and not seeing anything I finally found something in Cornwall. The only problem is that I live in the Highlands of Scotland! I decided to book a train, which is a two day journey from here to there and if I want to get there before dark so I can see the van in daylight the place to stop and change trains would be Birmingham. Budget hotels at this time of the year are knocking on for £200!! So, I'm going by sleeper to Crewe, an hour wait there for the train South and arrive just after lunch. It doesn't save a lot, but a lot more exciting!

The guy selling the MH (a dealer) was a little surprised I was actually going to pick it up rather than a second look (I'd already had an extensive video call in which he looked in all the little nooks and crannies I'd asked him to) but I said I can quite easily get the train home. He assured me I wouldn't have to and went over every tiny scratch and knock he had shown me on the video call. The important things like service history being up to date, habitation check done 4 months ago, were the main things for me.

Hopefully my optimism is justified!

Have you struck a deal with them that will allow you to get anything that needs doing get done locally? So you don't have to traipse all the way back to Cornwall again?

That was my thought also.
I live 10 miles north of Glasgow, and bought my last van from Catterick Caravans. Never again. I bought the new van 50 miles away in Perth.
Hopefully veggiehouse won’t require to travel all the way down to Cornwall, and enjoys many years with their new van.
 
You could stay on the sleeper to London and then another sleeper to Penzance if you really love trains ,won’t see much out of the windows sadly but at least you can take your time on the return, enjoy.
 
Sounds good, but dont trust any service history, get it looked over by an independant or yourself, i boughr a car with 5 service sheets, never was serviced all bull sh-t.

Not yet. But if it is what I hope it will be and there’s a snagging list I’ll negotiate before I drive off.

Yes, I did the sleeper to Penzance once, it was ok-ish, but you do miss all the lovely views once you get to Devon and Cornwall

I do but the current car was hitting 5 years old with 27 th on it, old chap in eighties own it and the dealer he sold it bact to and was the one servicing it was bull sh-tting him.
List within one mth of buying, back wheel bearing colapsed, one had never had a g cap so wheels never been of, coil give up, front strut burst and plugs and oil filter so rusted it was trouble getting them out, oil was black as hell and thick, g box required half a ltr of oil, f pads half worn and back shoes down to the metal.
Hence i do all my own work as i see this all the time here, here is why, most fok here change there car after 3 years to avoid mot, dealers dont want them so they go to auction or to trade dealers like me well below price just to get rid of them, hence never seviced as not required within 3 years.
