Camping Toasters - Best One?

Wot's that then? Has it been specially blessed by the pope so your toast will never burn? ๐Ÿค” ๐Ÿ˜‚ ๐Ÿ˜‰
Remember Mick and Paddy ?
They went to to the Vatican and camped..
In the morning Mick went off to get brekkie
As he returned he saw the Pope doing the "Spectacles, Testicles, Wallet and Watch" routine.
When he got back to the tent he excitedly checked with Paddy saying " Did you see the "Holy Father blessing us" ?
No said Paddy he was gesticulating and shouting " Get that bloody tent down and p155 off "

We use a medium sized nonstick frying pan.
Works and saves on clutter.
We also keep a stock of frozen paratha. As a very nice alternative !
They are best cooked in said frying pan !
Frypan also good for garlic bread !
My favourite camping breakfast is 4 slices of streaky bacon rolled up in a dry fried Paratha with maple syrup ๐Ÿ˜‹๐Ÿ˜‹

Found our spare toaster today, it still has the price ticket on it, it was actually 1.8 euros about ยฃ1 -50 still using our old one though, same as, there was some phys co babble some time ago on forums about these toasters saying they can cause cancer as the are used directly over a gas flame, but we still use ours when we want good toast ??

Love this thread! We have one like the one above...got it recently in Portugal for โ‚ฌ3 (ripped off?) Works well but not very big so one piece of toast at a time.
Also have the "just don't bother one" which we find worked ok but kept collapsing so it was wired together in the toasting position. We also have a dry fry pan with ridges which works fine ...these are all in the barn. Seen to have all the options there!
In the van we have the folding one, and this works best.
Hadn't thought of the cadac plate.....think I have been obsessed with getting the right toaster in the past!

Bought from local ca ping shop. No idea what make. Burnt off many years ago. Seen them on Amazon and EBay

There are basically 3 types unless you want to risk burning the non-stick off your ridgemonkey:

The pyramid type that Trev has shown. These are absolutely useless, don't waste your money. Have tried a couple of different makes over the years, all useless.

The square one with lots of holes in, as shown in above post. I use one currently. They are ok but don't always toast evenly.

The rectangular one that folds up. These are the bee's knee's of toasters, I borrowed my friend's to try it out and it is so much better than my square one.

Interesting stuff, thanks for the summary.

Seems that Millets / Blacks have a square one with good reviews on offer at the moment, I'll see if I can get one on Saturday.

By the " rectangular one that folds up" do you mean the Primus / Highlander type in the pix below?

Thanks for the replies, I'm hopeless without some toast to get me going so am constantly on the lookout for a device to make good toast on my gas camping stove.
This one seems to get the best reviews

We use the type in your first picture but be warned, you need to keep your eyes on it because it tossts so quickly it can soon be a nice slice of charcoal ๐Ÿ˜‰

Any problems with the quality of this one? I read that the later ones were not so well made, maybe they sorted that out.
I think that overall, this type has the best reviews.
I have two, both from a local place called Charlie's Direct. The first one is showing signs of wear now but we did get in in 2016 ๐Ÿค”
I saw them in there yesterday at ยฃ3.99 which is a bargain. You can get one on their website.

EDIT: I've just checked and the postage is ยฃ2.75 so if you're attending any meets I could get one for you?

Regards,
Del
