Hi
Is Europe right to suspend use of the AstraZeneca jab, over blood clot fears?

In 1998, the medical Journal The Lancet published a study Co written by British physician Andrew Wakefield. He claimed that there may be a link between the widely used MMR vaccine and autism.
But there wasn't, multiple later studies found no link at all and it turned out that Wakefield's study was deeply flawed. The Lancet even retracted Andrew Wakefield's paper in 2010. It now counts as one of the most comprehensively discredited studies of all time, and yet its influence has been huge.
Incredibly, noting the above, the MMR Anti Vax movement is still going strong. MMR vaccine rates in the US are still lower than they were before 1998 and cases of measles continue to increase. The sad truth is that it's far easier to make people believe fake news than it is to make them change their minds.
Moving on to the current Covid crisis, Ireland has just become the fifth country to pause its AstraZeneca roll-out, over fears that the vaccine is causing blood clots in some patients.
It comes despite reassurances from the World Health Organisation, that the vaccine is safe and findings by EU regulators that the occurrence of blood clots is no higher than in the general population.
The UK also came to AstraZeneca's defence with a member of the Government's Vaccine Committee saying that 'the risks of not having the Covid vaccination far outweigh the risks from the vaccinations'.
AstraZeneca says it has found no increased risk of blood clot conditions in its analysis of 17 million administered doses, saying that the numbers 'are lower than the number that would have occurred naturally in the unvaccinated population'.
More than 11 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine have now been administered across the UK, without any reports of severe reactions.
As Europe enters it's third wave of rising Covid infections, we can't help but speculate as to how many additional covid deaths will now be caused by their decision to suspend the AstraZeneca jab.
Of those choosing not to get vaccinated, half have based their decision on the fear of potential side effects. This issue will only add to their concerns, whether unfounded or not.

Talking to our neighbour yesterday he had to have a liver biopsy. The guy who performed the procedure said there was 1 chance in a 1000 of something going wrong. That is 0.1% the chances of getting a blood clot supposedly from an AZ jab works out at 0.0002%. So you are going to have to be really unlucky or you would have got a blood clot anyway. Neighbour thought it was great that the EU are not using the AZ vaccine. It just means we can vaccinate more people. He also commented that the EU were looking at buying the Sputnik jab.

I also have read that the Oxford/AZ vaccine was offered "open sauce", allowing others companies to make the vaccine with no license fee. Pressure was put on them not to do it and they complied.

I will add, I have no idea how true that is, may well be nonsense.

I think there is a danger that too many countries are being over cautious. I heard yesterday that out of 17 million jabs just 40 people had blood clots which are not proved to be linked to the jabs anyway (yet). We are talking 17 million people here. Thats a lot of people. Some will have died or had all sorts of health issues after the jab in such a massive number of people but it wont necessarily be related to the jab. Yes there is always going to be a bit of a risk but look at what is happening again in Europe right now. A third wave. Maybe its time to trust the Vaccine manufacturers as the alternative is far worse. I dont think there is a choice, not if you want to get back to some kind of normal.

What we are forgetting is that a huge swathe of the world needs to be vaccinated to bring any sanity back to day-to-day living for everyone.

Bitching and carping about what other nations are doing achieves nothing, except maybe make you feel a bit better for having a grump ;) :ROFLMAO:

Well I say its safe!! I had the AZ yesterday, woke up this morning with a bit of a headache but apart from that Im fine. My feet were bit itchy though and summat dont feel quite right but I guess it will wear off. 😬

Here's some more food for thought.

Gardening yesterday and my lovely customer tells me her son, who lives in London, has developed type 1 diabetes since just before Christmas.
He is early 30s and (was) fit as a flea, extremely healthy diet, etc. etc.
The only reason they, and his GP, think this might have come about is because he has had covid and this is the viral after effect.:confused:

So when they talk about the unknowns of "long covid" they really mean it.
It very much exists and can be potentially serious.
I know first hand of several other people suffering badly with the after effects of this bl**dy awful virus.

I'm drugs and vaccines averse BIG time! 😝
And if there were going to be any potentially nasty side effects, my chances are probably higher than most.

But I didn't have to think for long before deciding to have one of these vaccines.

Go for it, folks, you'll be fine! 👍

GP not heard of LADA I guess.

Yes, but one of the reasons this might also have come about is possibly genetic.
No one in the family suffers from any sort of diabetes, but his mother has suffered from severe arthritis for many years now, so this may have some bearing on the way he has reacted to covid.

The prognosis in this case is that catching covid has triggered this type of immune response, which in turn has led to type 1 diabetes.

One thing for sure - the medics will be on for years figuring out all the possible viral after effects of covid.

A friend who has suffered badly for over a year now after having covid has been for another scan a couple days ago, this time for the liver.
She has been for several different body scans/tests for various possibilities over the last few months.
Working their way down the list of what might be causing her severe physical debility.
They are having a real hard time tracking down anything specifically wrong 🤷‍♀️
