New drone laws soon

It reads (to me) that even drones under 250gm wiil need to be registered !
Only sensible to get insurance as well.
Little practical difference in terms of flying
One key difference from what I can see is that under 250g and you can fly over people. Was that not prohibited before?

Think it's a bit Pandora's Box.

Who's going to be able to monitor them all?!

And you can bet there will be a black market for them, just as there is with everything else.

How on earth are they going to police it, folks here dont even insure their cars or have licences esp farmers with kids on quads.
Not to popular here as i think only seen about 2 so far.

Blimey Trev!

Where do you live - Dodge City? :giggle:
Yes, many times i see quads with kids on roads, electric/petrol scooters scramblers etc on public roads, housing estates are most common places to find them, every night police are chasing them except in republican places where you do as you like as cops dont dare go in.

I think the farmers kids do the same here with quads Trev out on the country lanes. I've also seen kids on the fields with dirt bikes, they know the police aren't going to chase them over fields.

My cousin in Harrogate had a bunch of idiots/yobs back in the summer on her housing estate who decided to start doing wheelies on big trail/trial bikes up and down the road outside her house at god knows what speed.

Turns out they were new social housing tenants who'd moved into a property round the corner.

The numpties were just wearing T shirts and shorts.
The main idiot eventually came off at high speed and ended up in hospital. Serves him right, imo.
Could easily have injured other folk, especially children out playing as it is normally a relatively safe and quiet estate.

Hope those nurses gave him a bloody hard time with the old gravel rash!!! :devilish: ;)

My mavic pro falls into the legacy drone cat. Which is A3 in the new scheme. Where as mavic mini and mini 2 flyers can happily fly on in A1
A3= chuck it in the bin you can't use it! Unless you pay through the eyes and nose for a full days extra training certificate, which only lasts to Dec 2022, then chuck it in the bin as it will be illegal.
I think the above is about right! (Could be misinterpreted) the new laws seem to be very wooly and foggy

I've just done my A2CofC for the drones. I have a Mavic Air 2 hence why I did the course as it will enable me to use it until 2022. When doing the course and exam its mainly about safety, rulings and common sense too. I've had a drone before and thought I knew most of what I needed, but got to admit the course does make you think of things that you otherwise might not. It leans more towards the commercial side of things. So I suppose the idea that you can make enough money in the 2 years to buy a c2 drone or which ever as the A2CofC last 5 years
Having said that. Without doing the A2CofC for the likes of those with Mavic Pro, air, air2 etc nothing much changes and you carry on flying in the open as you do already. Only instead of a distance bubble it's a cylinder that goes upto the 120m limit. Alot won't change.
On saying that I have just bought a DJI Mini 2 today so I don't have any issues later down the line with flying where I want to.. But I will still keep my Air2 and continue to use it when out far from unaware people etc...

I’ve seen many more kids than you then😉

If it keeps up this drone stuff I will not be able to sunbathe naked in the back garden anymore. 😜

Can you expand what a A2CofC is? Thanks!
