I've currently got a 150ltr tank mounted in the "garage" but eventually I'll be putting in a secondary water tank underneath for non drinking water and feeding it off the roof. My roof isn't flat and has a recessed "eave" which is ideal for mounting a guttering to collect and channel water to a tank. It's still a work in progress and still have quite a bit of joinery work to do inside but I've run out of talent and lack the tools required to do a lot of it to a reasonable standard. I've got bed,log burner, toilet and hob so it's quite liveable as is.
You'll have to post up pics of your new wagon when you get it,I do like the look of some expedition trucks I've seen on the road.

My avatar is the basic truck I’ve designed the inside myself with 400 ltr fresh water tank and all wipe down surfaces CF688966-8F19-447F-B3E2-9F3462B9E2B1.jpg this is a very similar truck our door will be behind the rear wheel and it will be slightly longer

That looks yummy,my only concern would be the fuel consumption,my current wagon is surprisingly good,I've never bothered finding out the mpg but at a guess I'd think around 20mpg,similar to my 2.4ltr 207D Merc I had previously. What size engine is your new one?

We are on a 6.9 auto now @17 mpg
New ones a 5ltr eng manual I’m hoping for around 15 but there’s no electronics to spend money on like this truck

Electronic keypad for entry door £2000
Tilt sensor for levelling jacks £900
Auto box speed sensor £800
Four rear tyres £2000

I think your new one should do better than that, being a manual will give some saving, ive found with bigger engines they can be quite efficient as they just idle up and down hills all day without needing to change down, which is why my current 4.5 ltr is around the same mpg as my previous 2.4 which I had to constantly change down and thrash up the hills.
Is it constant AWD? That would add a bit to consumption, otherwise I could see it doing closer to 20mpg.

Modern vehicles are not the same as stupid vehicles. Those prices are just stupid. I remember the 1970s when the actual, real-world fuel consumption of my mini was worse than my 20-yer-old 5 tonne motorhome is today - and modern ones are far more economical.

There was a time when you could expect a vehicle to need tuning every year and to break down at least once a year. Nowadays, they tune themselves several times a minute and are unlikely to break down as often as once a decade.

Except for broken springs, that is. Potholes and speed bumps have had a big impact.

It's more the simplicity of the older vehicles that suits a simpleton like me,I can repair or replace most things but for a modern vehicle you need to be a wizz with computers and electronics. When I got my current ride I compared prices for things like a gearbox, alternator, body panels etc, they're as cheap as chips because they're NOS and there's little demand. From what I read around the forums there seems to be endless problems with anti pollution gear, electronic switches and the like, usually requiring a qualified mechanic to diagnose and repair (read, throw away part and replace). Older models aren't for everyone, they are for me.

living in Sydney and as soon as we got a storm I'd be straight out onto the balcony to watch the lightning coming down all over the city,

Me too when I lived in the city. I have seen some fantastic storms in Oz.

I'm just a self taught bush mechanic although I did spend a few years building Scania coaches so learned a lot on the job...enough to be dangerous anyway☺
