can never understand why folk flock to places which they know are going to be packed with tourist over the bank holidays.......
love whitby.......however....never on a bank holiday etc.
The more that keeps away makes it easier for me. I was there over Easter and those photos have been taken just after the swing bridge has closed after letting boats through. As normal pedestrians are allowed to cross first. Within a few minutes the bridge was clear and traffic was crossing normally. There is more to Whitby than two streets but that is were 90% of visitors go. On Saturday afternoon we were sat outside a lovely little cafe in the sun that overlooked the Abbey and hardly any people there. You don't find the gems without going to look for them.
