Hey.

Will be ready in about 3 weeks to use the camper, a VW LT35 (i posted a newbie thing other day). i dont want to go too far for the first time, and a max of 2, maybe 3 at a push......for the first time. Somewhere with water as the dogs go crazy for swimming. I dont mind a night in a country pub car park, done that before, and if its a dog friendly pub so much the better.

Thinking a max of 60 miles each way.

thanks :)

Ring the owner of The Black Horse at Hulland Ward and ask if it is OK to stay overnight.

It is quite close to Carsington Water and there might be some summer event on that weekend.

So there you have it......well within 60 miles, parking, beer, food and water for the dog. :)

thanks, looks ideal. and only 47 miles way acc to google maps :) i want to get a few short ones in before winter, then change the layout of the inside of my camper over winter, and again go around Germany up from Ruegen downwards past Dresden, and into poland Cz etc with the dogs. i have done it in a car and tent, but at my age and with a bad back, tents are a no no now, hence the camper

If i get the chance to go in the next month, will get the dogs to report what it was like, after all their part of the family lol

Dogs that can write a report. I'll have them BOTH. They can fill in my daily Travel Log. At my age, I get cramp from writing. :)

well, depending how long they sleep for when we return, and the smiles they have will be a good indication of how they liked it lol. my very old dog, i have taken to Germany camping and hopefully he will still be around next summer. he smiles and chills out so much when near water, and german and polish people make such a fuss of him (dont know why, hes damn ugly!!!!!) Sounds stupid but he can read me like a book and vice versa and i cant tell when hes really happy heres him at Ruegen, the german seaside island a couple of years back (where they have special dog beaches and 99% of places are dog friendly)

Rugen is a great seaside resort. Used to spend a lot of weekends there over the years. Strahlsund, where you approach the road/bridge over the water to Rugen is also worth visiting, I wonder if they have finished building the second road/bridge over to Rugen. It has been a few years since I have visited. By the way, you have a handsome dog.

its been 3 years since i was last there and hadnt completed it then.

nooooo my dog is sooooo ugly, had him 16 years at least now, since a pup. hes damn smart and girls love him when they meet him no matter what county hes in. but hes soooooooooooooooooooooo damn ugly lol. i got a German Shepherd last year (which i said i would never do again) and she is soooooooooooooooooooooo cute, when i walk them both, i can look at her for hours :)

liking the new 2012 pet passport laws coming in.

and heres some fotos of the dog in Cottbus.

i used to go around germany for a month, leaving him behind, but i would come back early cos i missed him (while the girl i left him with thought i came back early cos i missed her lol) so saved and got him a pet passport.

hes had a bad heart for many years (he had a heart attack about 5 years ago, when the knocked him out at the pdsa to remove some loose teeth, they spent some time trying to revive him). they said he could drop dead any time, and once coming back from Berlin, where i got his pet passport done, the vet said his heart was bad and wouldnt sign it as he want healthy, i said to the vet, hes bere here for a month, done 3000miles, lots of running and swimming and if he does drop dead, it will be with me, on holiday having the time of his life, what a good way to die, rather than left at home. so the vet agreed and let him come back (i wouldnt have left him!)

Small world. I used to bypass Cottbus when I used to visit Görlitz right on the Polish border. I think they have now built a new bridge a few yards from the old road over the river Neisky. Had a look at your photos. Maybe your dog looks a bit wet when you say he's ugly.By the way, is that the lake near Pietz?

Cromford canal or Matlcok are both nice, plenty of rivers to choose from, or a bit closer, why not try Rother Valley CP, plenty of water, jet ski's and speed boats to watch

Ps, fantastic dog BTW, he's gorgeous

the first 2 i will look at, i hate RV, ok the dogs like it but i dont lol. nooooo hes damn ugly

WHAT???? how can you say that, he's gorgeous, well i think he is anyway, all dogs are to me, except the little yappy things, but thats not their fault, its the stupid owners.

Ok RV was just a suggestion, Matlock and Cromford are nice and you can drive back through the peaks, nice:banana:

I have been to Goerlitz, nice place. at that border the Zoll had a nickname for me '3 haired englishman' as i had a total skin head, but a little tuft at the front.

that lake is just south of Cottbus. i like Cottbus, been many times, but its a little boring. i really love east Germany, been to Neisky little village many times.

Well everyone else is right and your wrong, he reminds me of my old collie cross, Becky, fantastic dog, he looks great for 15, i know you love him really.

I dont know of a pub out there which would take MH but you can park in Cromford Canal car park, think its about £2, theres a long thread on here about Cromford.

enjoy whatever you decide

Oh i love him more than anything, or anyone, i named him Arthur after my granddad, as i was raised by my grandparents, and he helped my granddad when my nan died as i let him stay there so they kept each other company. Granddad is now in a home with alzheimers so doesnt remember anyone now, but it was the dog he rememberd the longsest of anyone. The dog has been with me through thick and thin, when girls come and go, hes always there (infact they liked him more than me lol). plus i have arthritis and spondysomething as i have a really bad back after i broke it 16 years ago and often i cant move for a day or 2, and he doesnt care, just lays with me....mind you the other dog does too. they can sense when im in totally agony.

Hes pretty blind now, and has a dog version of alzheimers, so hes ok on a nice walk, as long as hes not far from me, so can smell me, or see movement but can follow other people and walks off and now not really responding to me calling him. but hes still happy.

i made this last year when he was ill and thought i was losing him so got a bit drunk as i was upset. the german shepherd 'Wittmann' is my other dog, a young bitch so always wants to play with him lol. the american bulldog is from Cottbus, with a family i often say with, but that dog died last year and he was such a nice dog.
