What security?

After an eye opening chat with a Mercedes tech it appears I need to substantially upgrade my Sprinter security. It seems they are a very easily stolen.
Today I went and bought a peddle box Auto PedalBox whilst there we discussed other items the tech considered necessary including an ECU shield, cat guard, ignition guard and OBD port protector. The peddlebox has cost £150 and the other stuff fitted comes in at £550 making a grand total of £700

Apart from the Cat guard would an alarm/immobiliser work better than physical deterrents.Never had to fit these sort of things to the T4 so really need to get this right on the Sprinter.Any advise/thoughts would be most helpful, thanks.

None of the security comes from Mercedes, the technician was doing nothing but advising me when getting something else done.
Thanks for the advice.

Steering wheel cover will replace the disclock pro I already use.Really after people's thoughts on an alarm/immobiliser over the physical deterrents.Thanks.

Depends on the alarm/immobiliser! Not sure that it would protect the cat if that is a concern. If the Merc is anything like the Transit, an OBD port protector is a must. How good are the Merc door locks? Are cab door deadlocks a worthwhile investment?

Disklok physical presence, and tracker for me. None Thatcham approved trackers are very little money these days.

Physical deterrents are good, but can all be overcome given enough time. What the alarm provides is the noise that a thief doesn't want attracting attention to him whilst he's trying to bypass the physical measures, so yes, a layered approach is best.

A simple but effective addition is a padlock through the seat base. This prevents the swivel seat from being returned to the driving position.

I fitted one with the addition of another padlock linked to it (the type that has a built in alarm if moved). If they try to grind through the padlock, the alarm sounds.

I still think one of the best things that at least buys time is a simple isolation switch fitted between ignition and fuel pump, the secretion if the switch can be put out the way. there must be a reason people don't do it ?

My view is that if the whole thing gets stollen, it is insured and I wouldn't want it back!
For me the biggest problem would be damage from an attempted theft, of either the whole van or contents!
Exactly my thought.

Thanks for the replies,a layered approach it wil be then.I shall have all the guards fitted Saturday morning.
Never having had an aftermarket alarm/immobiliser fitted what should I be looking for,and what would I expect to pay(fitted)
Thanks

the Maingate suggestion of locking your seat in the swivelled position is, IMO, one of the simplest and most effective methods to prevent theft of the whole vehicle.

I'm not overly bothered about contents as they can be replaced a lot easier than a van that's had so much thought/care/money gone in to it.I would be absolutely gutted to wake up and look out side to see an empty space.Or to start it up and find some scumbag has had the cat. What a disaster any of the above would be if away on holiday, even worse if abroad.
I would kick myself half to death thinking I hadn't protected it in the best way I could.

If after all I've done and it still got stolen, then I don't think I'd want it back.
Buggard if I'll let them have an easy target tho,not when I could be parked next to someone like yourself who's not so bothered about protecting their gear cos the insurance will pay up.

There seems to be an assumption on this - and a similar thread on the other - ******-free - forum that anyone who would prefer not to see their vehicle back in the event it is stolen also does not give a damn about looking after their vehicle.

What a stupid and ridiculous assumption to make.

I truly give up.
Goodbye.
