we are off to west wales for a few days and are aiming for barmouth then follow coast down, perhaps llangranog, then down to hang around st davids , solva etc etc for a while...any must sees or must do's that you can recommend, or 'not to missed' views/experiences etc

also if there are any cheap and cheerful sites , for an 'empty tank' and 'top up' water kinda stop id be most grateful

cheers everyone

Well to start White sands St Davids there's a cheap site right by the beach with great views.
The point pub allows motorhomes overlooking sea.
Freshwater west wild camp stunning views.
The jewel in the crown Bosherston lily ponds, cheap campsite past st govens inn and turn left.
The campsite is basic but its above Broad sands, amazing views and you can walk across beach and up through the liliy ponds.
Stackpole quay, St Governs church which is built into the rocks, Barafundle bay are all nearby.

Barmouth

Hi,
I lived in Barmouth as a child, many years ago.
I believe that you may be able to stay on the main beach car park overnight.
Otherwise there is a camp site, north of Barmouth centre, right next to the rail line.
It is called Hendre Mynach, on the Llanaber Road. Priced at £25 a night now.
Phone 01341 280262.
Hope this helps. If you want "wild camping", then I'm not sure.
Regards Brian.

thanks Moonman, much appreciated
whitesands sounds good as want to keep north of the cleddau.
been to Angle so much we practically live there ! so going other side of the estuary for a change but the campsite near bosherton sounds a good one to try next time as you,ve got me thinking of the fab cream teas at Ye Olde World cafe near the lily ponds.....mmmm yummy yummy yummy

its quite a challenge as hubby is defo for wild camping ( free) but I'm more settled on a small site , feel safer , better sleep etc etc so need a mixture of both

wot Morgan said, and don't miss the lily ponds and the beach they lead to !

Any idea what the name of the campsite near the lilyponds is called?

It's called Trefalen farm.
Reviews of Trefalen Farm , Pembroke, Pembrokeshire Campsite.
This site is great if you like walking and love coastal scenery.
Basic but we are wild campers after all.
We walked down along the beach then through the back onto the lily ponds then up to the café had lunch then in the pub for lubrication then along the road back to the site knackered but invigorated, dogs slept for hours after.

We've had lunch at the pub when we've stayed down at Freshwater West. A really nice pub, good food & dog friendly too. Had to get there early with Percy as they only have disabled parking & we had to park him in the lane, so close to the stone wall that we had to both get out of the driver's door.

I could be tempted by the campsite purely for where it is.
How long did it take you to do the walk?

An hour to hour and half up through the lake to the cafe and pub and 20 mins from pub back to site. Well worth it.

Just back from a few days in west wales, plans changed slightly so 4 nights at whitesands ( thanks moonman) then 2 nights at angle.
Whitesands; £7.00 pppn very busy , fab surf, water sooooo cold ! Trip into St David's to see the cathedral ( awesome) , coastal walk from St David's to solve 4.3 miles, nice easy coastal walk, not too upper-downy! Lovely foxgloves everywhere. Walked up Carn lidi, spectacular 360 degree views over to Ramsey and towards the presellis .
Met loads of interesting people along the way.
Then met up with friends in angle , another nice walk from west bay to the point, All in all a fab week with fab weather and good company , and the odd glass of vino of course
