VED Reversal

Subtle distinction here - the harmonisation of CO2 declaration for converted vans was an EU thing.
My Brexit reference was intended to be a light hearted reference to a change in heart after the 'one issue' general election and a new more Brexit oriented chancellor rather than a swipe at the EU 'controlling' our lives.

In the UK motorhomes under 3500kg had long been treated as PLG rather than cars but getting a C02 figure drew them into the high VED car class.
The government could have made an exception at the time but gave a couple of years notice of the intention to increase so it was obviously a deliberate decision.
Presumably based on car sales history they reasoned that the premium on an already expensive purchase would not deter buyers significantly.
At the time they were being holier than thou about wanting to reduce emissions rather than admitting it was about revenue raising because so many vehicles were now in low VED bands and net revenue was falling.
Even when the petition was running the government were still sticking to the green argument.
We'll probably never know the real reason for change but no doubt lobbyists will take the credit!!
