I'm still awake due to crappy mattress ... also being too hot then too cold.
I put the heater on in my van (truma) blow heater , we have had it on many times and no problems. I decided to put it on low and just let it kick in when needed ..just about to doze off again and realised I could smell a burning smell.
I have checked around the van to make sure none of the vents were covered.
I have now turned off heater ..
this never happened before,

Any ideas ... ?

If it hadn't been used for a while our Truma in the van used to stink the first time switched on again - it's all the dust, it settles inside even if it's clean on the outside.

I remember a 3 bar electric fire we used had at home when I was a kid, used to give off the same smell when first switched on in winter, even though my mother kept it spotlessly clean.

The smell should disappear after a while if you keep using it :)

😂... well I'm still alive and still in one piece
Marie been in the van since Thursday and using the heater regularly with no problems
That's the first time I could smell the burning smell.

Very strange

We had a similar issue last night with our truma c6002. Turned it on, it made usual sounds, then all 3 lights came on then went to just power light and red light. Smell of burning and it shut down. Normally that's a gas issue or at least it has been in the past. So outside I went to make sure I opened the gas as just switched bottles a few hours before. Yes all open, so lit the oven ready to cook tea all good, so gas is getting through.
So then I restarted the boiler maybe 5 or 6 times and it did the same tried just water heater and just the same. Thought I'd give it one more try and heard the gas ignite and then 10 seconds later shut off. One more go and it started perfectly normal, wacked heating up to 8 and cooked ourselves for a while. Then turned it down, left it on all night on low 4 and its been perfect.

It has done this once before, but only since I have started using lpg. Could this cause the burner to clog up a bit? I have noticed since using lpg that we need the heater turned up a bit more than when we used calor...

Yes, usually dust and it does stink.
I wonder if a spider could have crawled in and the smell was caused by it roasting?🐜🐜🐜

Thank you this sounds like a very similar to what happened I don't think it ignited properly and because I just put it on low it was struggling ... I think next time I would just put it on high let it run for ten mins and then turn it down. I'm glad I noticed the smell straight away and didn't fall back asleep, maybe my sleepless nights are a blessing after all 😊

If yo have a small person

Along with my mice in the tank and they snake who lives in my pipes

Alongside your snake..cook them both well and put in Pastry..cook again

You will have a nice "snake and pygmy" pie

As for the Mice.. do a mini version of Rat or Two eee

in France i stupidly put my roll of paper towel next to the gas hob while boiling the kettle... i then rushed outside to greet a french couple i had met a few days earlier.... chit chatting chit chatting..... i vaguely heard a noise but took no notice... Monsieur suddenly shouted "madame - votre campingcar - le feu" and i saw smoke coming out of my kitchen window..... the paper towel was on fire.... i dashed in threw it out of the window, and accidentally hit the french man with it - he calmly picked it up, stamped out the flames, removed the charred bits and handed it back to me with a smile. That taught me a huge lesson...... never leave the van if cooking, or switch off hob, and always ensure alarms are current and working......

i have a fly lives in van - no matter how many times i shoo him out of the window.... hey presto here he is again.... can i borrow your snake - it might swallow my fly - i dont know why, it might swallow my fly .....

Turn your heater completely off Jac.
On the outside of your van will be the Truma exhaust pipe. Undo the two screws and remove the plastic end cover.
There are two concentric tubes, an inner and an outer. Form your fingers to roughly block the outer pipe and put a vacuum cleaner pipe into the centre tube. This should suck any debris from the burner area.
Hope this helps.

Regards Rog.

No. not a spider, Dead Rat or a family of mice that have chewed through everything before the heater took its revenge on them.
