I thought this email from my Tesco car insurance was quite strange it reads:

"If you are planning to take your vehicle to the European Union you will require a Green Card from 29th March 2019. We can issue you with a Green Card by post or we can send you a digital version to be printed at home, on green paper. Please ensure you request your Green Card at least 14 days ahead of travel."

The bit about "printed at home. on green paper".. :lol-053: just does not seem official enough for an insurance document.

At the moment, printing at home on white paper is sufficiently official if taking your vehicle to other EU countries; Tesco appear to be jumping the gun a bit, because it's still not clear whether a Green Card will be required from 29 March 2019.

I think we will be getting an extension so not required, might get my green paper though just in case.

But the paper costs £49.99 a ream !

You also need special Green ink The usual combination of CMYK is not official enuff

If you arrive by boat the paper must have a special watermark not so if using the tunnel (every little helps)

sorry

All our insurance documents are sent electronically but make sure you use green paper as I had a green card supplied direct from my then insurance and the shade of green wasn't dark enough for one officer

But later on. I'm fairly sure I was sent them printed on white paper.

I defiantly got one of those

Another point to bear in mind is passports.
Most of us will be aware that if we leave with no deal your passport will require at least six months left on it to gain entry to the EU.
But did you know that they will only allow passports with a ten year term, any extensions due to date of renewal added on will not be valid.
What this means is say when you renewed your passport it was valid for 10 years and six months, then you will need that passport to be valid for 12 months, to gain entry to the EU.

Check your passports.

I have some good quality Green Card so that info has just put the price up to £10 per sheet, this time next year i`ll be a millionaire

There was a time when green cards were printed on green card. But later on. I'm fairly sure I was sent them printed on white paper. Then the EEC came along and we stopped having to worry about all that, or IDL or IDL or Camping Carnet, or smuggling cash out hidden in underwear.
I wonder if people have forgotten how awful it was before we joined?

I remember the green card. It was green and we needed one to drive in Germany in the forces, I do not remember it being awful though.
I do remember driving up to the Germany/Dutch border and saying to my passengers, "have your passports ready, and don't try to be smart, or the cloggies will empty the car".

Most of the insurance documents we have had via hard copy have some embossed parts or water marks to prove they are genuine.

At a routine document check a French policeman was quite happy to read ours from the Ipad If we went back to having hard copies for all our insurances the extra wouldn't be insignificant to us

I get truly fed up of printing everything and not forgetting the cost of ink, paper and printer wear

Yes no point in going paper less then printing them your self that defeats the object totally
