Just tried this app on my journey today ...

I have been considering a replacement for my elderly TomTom Go 910, and I thought this was worth a go.

The result - I will stick with the TomTom.

I'm not impressed with the Sygic software. The reasons:

1. Over cluttered display with so much information it distracts rather than helps.
2. Road speed limits are frequently wrong. And worse, when travelling on a motorway if another road crosses it, the speed limit changes to that of the other road!
3. On my tablet the volume of the directions is too low, even on maximum, to be usable.
4. The current vehicle speed fluctuates all the time - it seems no smoothing of the GPS derived value is applied.
5. It seems impossible to easily find a POI within a specific category in an area to navigate to.

I have a new respect for TomTom software ...

One positive observation. Our POIs for Sygic load and function correctly :D

You can run Truck software on your TomTom.
I had an Go910 with truck installed but it died.
Was working good with the truck software and maps.

Thanks for the info, I was considering downloading that as my camper contact app uses sygic, I'll stick to putting the coordinates into our snooper sat nav.

Indeed ... this is what I use at present. It works really well but updating the maps is now no longer possible because of the age of the device.

That's why I thought I should consider other options.

You can update the navcore to the latest version easily, 'TomTom Home' will only update to the latest official navcore so you have to install it yourself but then you can put the latest maps on as well, I run version 9.702 on my old Go720 and have the latest truck maps on (currently 950.6651)
Have you asked fairytooth to put it on for you

I agree with you, and I would strongly advise against anyone spending any money on the sygic app. I got it because the reviews were better than the other nav apps (including the tomtom app) and I used it a lot for over a year, so I know it well.
The routing is poor, it seems slower to report traffic jams (meaning I ran into the back of an hour's jam on the M1 a couple of weeks back- again), and it cannot reroute you properly if you miss a turning.
Add to that the zoom is set so you cannot see the whole of a big roundabout on the screen, so you dont know your exit road for sure until you're halfway round it.
Repeatedly frustrated by the lack of quality of sygic in several key aspects, I finally ditched it, and despite the reviews I installed the tomtom app instead.
What a revelation that was- it picks better routes, reroutes properly, warns of traffic sooner, and just does a proper job of getting you there sooner.
I hate the tomtom customer support system and how they rip you off for map updates on their dedicated nav devices, but their nav app for phones and tablets is quite simply in a different class to sygic, and now that its £15 per year including traffic warnings, theres simply no contest.

Where did you obtain the other version of the truck navcore? If TomTom Home doesn't update it how did you get round the activation? TomTom itself isn't of much help, they want to sell you the latest hardware
