Secret Coast Reversing

Just spent 3 day exploring Scotland’s secret coast and surrounding area, have to say I was very impressed considering it was the Easter holidays it was very quiet, often nothing behind us or in front however I did have one incident with another road user that made me ask the question do young drivers learn or practice reversing or are they just inconsiderate or am I ?

Traveling down the B8000 the long way around to Dunoon and entered the 5 mile ish section of road with a 7ft-6inch width restriction now Shirley is that width but only 5.2 meters long.As i was already a long way down the road we continued using the passing place with no issues, until I came around a corner a young driver appeared in a popular small Fiat car.

I had driven about a hundred meters or so after the bend, they had a passing place perhaps 30 meter behind them, they seemed to freeze just stationary in the road and had no intentions of reversing, so I did with only an inch or so of road either side and extremely soft verge/ditch on each side managed to get back “very slowly” and tuck into the bend on a firm verge, allowing space for them to proceed, with no thanks or acknowledgment for my action!

Just wondering if any one has had experience of this happening? I know that I would have been able to do a 30 point turn in the Fiat on that road or reverse it back.

Not just young people who can’t reverse.
We were on a Brin meet a few years ago and out in a minbus. The car driver who came head on had to be ‘persuaded’ to reverse into a field entrance only metres behind him. We soon understood his reluctance... he couldn’t reverse ... ended up straight into the ditch. All the menfolk on our mini bus had to lift his car up out of the ditch!

No just sit and wait especially if they are smaller than you ..

Sadly some can't reverse, I've had to reverse my car and boat trailer 100 yrds back after noting the oncoming person had reversed 3 times into the hedge attempting the manoeuvre, they did try :lol-049::lol-049:

Also a few years back I reversed a 3 day old motorhome out of a dead end road after I watched him reverse into a wall and hedge breaking all the back corner of the van, with wheels spinning in the gutter as he tried force the wall out of the way :scared::scared: And he was OLD!

We met a cyclist (pushbike) on a single track road with passing places. We held back so he could get himself into the passing place, which was in his direction of travel, between us and him. But no, he kept coming and positioned himself in the middle of the single track road. Yes, he had as much right to be there as we did; but really?

Many years back up in donegal i was on a single track and about 90% through when a old fart blocked my way,so picked up fishing rod left car jumped the fence and went down to the beach, when i arrived back a hr later the road was clear,i could see the rd from corner of my eye and the silly sod must have sat there for 20 mins before reversing back 50 yards.:hammer::lol-053:
