Road to Applecross

If you go on the coast road north of Applecross there is a brilliant sea food place, sells live langoustines (and lobsters I think.) I'm not sure but I think it's just on the Shieldaig side of Kenmore.

Thanks all for the information. The videos look phenominal. The problem is I'm getting chicken in my old age. I've developed too much of a vivid imagination. Lived in the Outer Hebrides for a few years so well used to single track but those roads would certainly relieve my constipation

...and home-smoked salmon and delicious crab and lots of other goodies too - not cheap but well worth it for the quality. All in all this is a great area to visit for all kinds of reasons.

Kishorn Seafood Bar? been going there for years but now you have to queue for a seat... Try Squat Lobsters.

LIke Solwaybuggier, I can't remember the name but it is not a restaurant so it can't be the one you refer to. Easy to find though because there are not many places along that road!

Must admit I can't think of a restaurant on that road between Kinlochewe and Lochcarron and I travel it quite regularly....there is a good restaurant in the Torridon Hotel Fine dining restaurant in the Scottish Highlands | Restaurant | The Torridon if that's what you mean

Hi

Its not a restaurant; its a place that sells wonderful locally-caught and smoked seafood for consumption off-site and its not on the Kinlochewe/Lochcarron road; its on the Applecross/Shieldaig coastal road.

Think you must mean Tigh a' Chracaich near Kenmore...that's the only place I can think of on that road

Follow this link to you tube and this should give you a good idea of the road. It's pretty thrilling! even better if you do it by pushbike.
Don't take any notice of the hysterical commentary by my (ex) other half...it's not as scary as she makes it sound. There is a coastal route but nowhere near as dramatic, lovely views though.

I think she was very brave to keep filming!! Just wish there had been more of it. Is there??

I've looked at the videos, and "virtually" travelled it on Streetview, but which is the best way to do it with a motorhome? From Applecross out to the A896, or the other way round?? Or are both ways equally hair-raising??

We hope to be coming down from the Ullapool direction, so I'm hoping that the Applecross out to the A896 is the lesser of the two evils. Does look spectacular, though!!

Neither way is hair raising, unless the top is in low mist or the road is icy or snowy...it's a legend partly from the day of the Austen A35 and partly a deliberate ploy to excite tourists.
I do it regularly and it is no problem unless, of course, you try it in one of the vehicles banned on the road..

Can't say I'm surprised!! Just hope I manage to do better when we do it in the Autumn!! Maybe I can just let the video get on with it and cover my eyes??

So what happened next? Did you turn round, - or carry on, having blindfolded and gagged her??

Sorry prickles...the nerve ran out completely at that point.

Loved the video! I shouldn't laugh, but I remember my American friends coming to visit and they were freaking out when I drove them (in a car) on a country road in Hampshire! They nearly passed out when a car came towards us! :scared:
Maybe that's why they never did come back to do the Scotland tour.

I'm going up to Scotland next month and will do that route to Applecross - looking forward to it

No chance of turning around on that road......She wanted to curl up at the back with the dog but I insisted she suffered the two hairpin bends at the top......cruel I know but twas the best birthday she ever had.

Enjoy! There are some great wild camping spots just off the road out of Applecross by the beach.
