We managed the pass out of Applecross last year in our old Autostratus 2.5 non turbo diesel with no problems.

We camped by the seashore just outside of Applecross opposite the heritage centre and we were lucky enough to have a herd of deer come down to the lochside right past our motorhome, they were not bothered by the vans or humans at all.

One place we will definitely go back to.

Just make sure you keep your brakes nice n cool on the way down - I usually stay in 2nd gear , maybe third.

You will be fine.

I have been over both those passes in my first van a Talbot Express and she got up and over them no bother. Just remember you do have a first gear, you may need to remember that....:)

Well, we have DONE the infamous Bealach na Ba, otherwise known as the Applecross Pass, and my husband NEVER wants to see another single track road again!! We did it by coming in the Shieldaig end and going over the pass towards Tornapress. Unfortunately, we hit low flying cloud as we approached the summit, which made for a very interesting descent!! :scared:

This is one of the worst hairpin bends!

My biggest regret is I didn't have the video camera handy, as I wasn't expected to go over that day. Unknown to me, Himself had decided to get this over with, and did it all at once!! I did take stills, and will eventually put them into a slideshow, though.

Don't worry, you'll have no problem as long as you have a first gear. I did Applecross (as you know) and all the way up to Cape Wrath, including Lochinver, in my 23 year old Transit and she didn't even get hot. One word of advice for The Applecross pass though....If you have plastic water containers on board, unscrew the lids a little as the air pressure difference from sea level to 2,500 feet in a short space of time can blow them off. Ours were squealing like banshees when we reached the top.

Don't get that bit about the water containers - always thought pressure got lower above sea level

Yup! So if the outside air pressure is less, it means that the pressure in any sealed container will be relatively greater and ultimately will explode as the pressure attempts to equalize with the surrounding environment. I once had a packet of jaffa cakes explode on me when I took them up to the top of the Jungfrau (at around 11,500 feet). Happy travels.
