On 8th April this year London Ultra Low Emissions Zone (ULEZ) comes into force, applying additional daily charges to all vehicles entering the area that are deemed to be too polluting.

Whether you are riding a moped, scooter or motorcycle, driving a car, a van, a minibus, a motor caravan or a pickup, if your vehicle doesn't meet the pre-determined emissions limits and weighs less than 3.5 tonnes, you'll be subject to the same £12.50 charge every day that you enter the ULEZ.

To check your vehicle Check your vehicle - Transport for London

To set things in perspective I've checked my vehicles:-

2015 MoHo :camper:; 2009 Diesel Car :drive:; 2002 Motorbike :scooter: are NOT ULEZ compliant.

2014 Motorbike :scooter: is ULEZ compliant and free to use.

Wonder what they’ll think of to screw the ordinary guy when all vehicles are electric. It’ll probably go the way of diesel 20 year ago you were encouraged to buy a diesel wonder if they’ll find a way to stealth tax electric cars once we all have one.

Don't forget the ULEZ zone gets much larger in a couple of years, October 2021

By then it will be in other towns.

No one here ever heard of it and i know some one with a small truck went to deliver some goods and came home to find fines of almost 90 bucks through letter box.:mad2:

ULEZ starts today, see breakfast TV. Did I see £160 fine ?

We have all these cameras to read number plates, but they don't seem to be able to stop crime ?

I just heard on Sky News that Ambulances and Fire Engines are NOT exempt
Do the realise just how much these things cost and where the money comes from?
Scrap after 2015. What a waste!
These sort of high cost emergency vehicles should be exempt!

Common sense has left the building with the clowns administering all this

Channa

Thankfully our son doesn`t live in London anymore so we don`t actually need to go now. He lived in Baltic Wharf which is right on the edge of the ULEZ :scared:

You see public transport is fine if your able bodied and not carrying anything.

Except if you are unwell, and not able bodied.

The air must be a lot better than when I was a kid with coal fires and power stations (London had 27 coal power stations) in central London fueled by coal.

I had the same thought myself. The govt were giving grants to people to fit solar panels, I'm interested to see how they're gonna tax the sun....

The Lord Mayor of London, said this new Ultra Zone is the first in the world!

Businesses have been moving all the old smokers out of London for the last few years putting all the new vehicles into London.

Still plenty of euro 5 emergancy ambulances around.

The TFL site is not that clear as far as those go. Their site states "Ambulances and motorcaravans (2.5 tonnes to 3.5 tonnes)"
All the Sprinter ambulances, which is basically 99% of them are over 3.5 tonnes. Ambulances aren't mention in " Lorries, coaches and other vehicles"

My Hymer is a Euro6 and still is able to go into Both areas even though it is over 3500kgs, my diesel Smart can only go into the LEZ and not theother one qas it is only a Euro 5 but produces sod all exhaust as it is so small, BUT my Honda 125 Motorbike (clockwork engine) can do neither zones without paying as it is too old so has no euro number at all.

On the radio this morning it said that sadiq khan is giving london ambulance time to change their vehicle fleet, quoted cost is 53 million pounds to replace the vehicles.

Apparently there is a similar scheme for the fire service, time to replace appliances.

From the Evening Standard newspaper.

The Metropolitan Police has 736 vehicles that will not meet the new ULEZ rules.

The London fire brigade has 52 and,

London Ambulance Service said it had 828 diesel vehicles that were not compliant but hoped to reduce this to 86 by 2020.

No mention of vehicles running on LPG.  But I'm not planning on going into London.
