We love porridge but not cleaning the pot afterwards, any tips for making this an easier task. Excluding expensive ready made porridge the beauty is it’s cheap and healthy. We also hate it with salt ;)

When we have it I make it in a non stick pan and as long as it doesn't burn it all comes out of the pan and doesn't leave too much mess, I fill the pan with water immediately and then when we clean it, it's not too much trouble.
We're not compatible I like a little salt in the porridge and then sugar when you eat it.

Clean the pot the proper Scottish way. Let the dug lick it clean! 🐺

Do you know my brother-in-law ?

That`s what he lets his mutt do, he doesn`t understand why no one wants anything to eat when they go to his house :scared:

hi
just cook it in the microwave in the bowl you use to eat it.

I think Ron is going to get a non stick pan for his 65th ;) no sugar on my porridge Lee just a few raisins, made with half water half milk.

boiling hot water immediately after cooking, leave to soak 10 mmins (whilst you eat your fayre) the food will lift straight off, you can help by using a plastic scourer

Poor dug.
Nice heather honey and a wee splash o single malt on a cold morning like this and soak yer oats overnight.

Try using a silicone spatula, as it’s bendy, it allows you to get all of the porridge out of the pan. Works for me.

Soak the pan in cold water afterwards, just floats off, I always add a good spoonful of double cream to mine for extra cholesterol.

I use the same method at home and in the van.

Half mug of oats, one mug of water and a half mug of milk. Bring to the boil, turn off the heat and stick your bowl for the morning on top of the pan. After reheating in the morning fill the pan immediately with cold water and the stuff that's left on the pan scrapes off nicely with said spatula.

Cheers

Had porridge for breakfast this morning (at home), used the instant stuff which you make in the bowl and cook in the micro wave. Just pop the bowl in the dishwasher.

But this link reminded me of Boy Scout camp (nearly 60 years ago) and cooking porridge in large cast iron dixies. We cooked on open fires and cleaning the dixies was one of the worse jobs and given to the newbies.

Waddecar ?

Waddecar ?

No. I spent my childhood living on the Nottinghamshire / Derbyshire border area. So camps were usually in the Peak District.

Only moved to Red Rose country 40 years ago, so I'm still a new comer.

Porridge plus water, 2 minutes in the Microwave, add a Tablespoon of Honey, stir and add milk.

Sorted.

do it straight away letting your porridge cool a little rather than taking 2 layers of skin off the roof of your mouth.
