In our search for another MH we have seen a couple of Moncayo Halon and Lunars, while we are looking at the obvious makes I was wondering if anyone has or has had either of these makes? If so what do you think of them?

Del

Lunar

Not sure you can get new.
Also some re-branded as "Homecar"

We have a Lunar Premier H622
6.5m long and so care needed with the overhang on adverse cambers etc.
We have had it since 2010 Thought briefly about changing last year but decided to keep it
Because we like it.
Nice and airy in the front dining area with the Cab area windows and 2 side windows.
General layout good
Shower in the bathroom VG as you can close the door.
Storage under the bed and accessible from outside the only slight problem..
But we keep...
  • 2 picnic tables
  • Cadac BBQ
  • 2 chairs
  • a suitcase
  • the usual clutter
  • 2 planks for soft ground
  • watering can
  • decent sized spare water tank for transporting grey water
There is a french bed at the rear
Fridge is big
wardrobe OK
10 overhead lockers & 3 lower lockers ALL inside
2.5 litre engine 30mpg ! (6 forward gears)

Have a look here !

Is it well winterized? That is does it have the fresh watertank inside or underneath etc?

Fresh water tank is inside it fills the space under the double seat just behind the dining table. SO VG
Grey water tank has an electric heater So OK if on EHU but it is underneath
Even on Cold windy scottish nights we have always been warm but an extra layer under the mattress would be an idea.

However we only use in From April to September
I do not think it would be good enough for say a skiing holiday !

PS we mnanage to fit 2x 11KG LPG (Gas-it) in the gas locker (Only just !)

Four years ago went to buy a new lunar landstar sprinter based pvc, and found the finish absolutely appalling it was brand new unregistered it had loose cupboard doors the rain was pouring in through the skylight where they had cut through the metal sides of the van to fit the water and electric and other fittings they obviously hadn’t treated the bare metal edges as there were rust stains running down the bodywork, and the decals were falling off, and all the dealer said was we fix issues after they have been sold.
Which was as shame as at the time the van and layout would have suited us.

We have just bought our van and what we did was the obvious.

We decided on two lists. One was the no compromise and the other was what we were flexible on.

After looking at (literally) several hundred vans our lists changed, and in one instance the no compromise changed.

We got a feel for build quality and ended up with our Betsy the Burstner.

One thing that we found which rather shocked us was the lack of external storage compared to our last van (Pilote) and as we wild camp all the time a garage became an essential.

Good luck

B2

Compromise yes

We too had about a year looking round..
The important things for us
under 3500kg
Rear fixed bed
Decent shower

We did not compromise on those as we use it fully for 5or 6 months in the summer (only)
Storage space (garage was the big compromise) but as you will see from my earlier post we got everything else.
We wild camp a lot and uses aires/stellplatz the rest of the time but we have Tables Chairs BBQ carpet and windbreak.

As an earlier post said the layout is great (and for us)
It is 4 berth but we do not need the extra double which would entail minor hassle

But we all have different ideas

If I/we ever decide to go for a professionally built van rather than a self built, the number one must have on our list will be build quality, so, as far as we are both concerned that rules out every single British built van, either as a panel van conversion or a coachbuilt!

When we lived in France we used to store a lot of caravans and motorhomes as well as of course having, over the years, quite literally hundreds of units stop on our sites which almost always resulted in some tongue wagging about the quality of the outfits and to be honest, I can't recall ever talking to a single owner of a UK built van that hadn't experienced more than a limited number of faults whereas the owners of Adria, Burstner, Fendt, Hymer, Hobby etc. etc. vans only ever had glowing praises to sing.

It makes you think doesn't it?

Agree about most if not all British mass produced pvc’s / coachbuilts, I had a new Swift c class so speaking from experience.
When I got rid of the Swift I bought a Devon Conversions pvc, based on a used Renault Master van as a stop gap until I found an A / C class that fitted the bill for me.
In 2 1/2 years of ownership the only problem has been the water pump. I called into Devon who are 12 miles from my home and they fitted a new pump while I waited.
Devon don’t make ‘blingy’ pvc’s for want of a better word but the build quality and customer service is second to non imo.
To be honest I’m reluctant to change it but want fixed beds, garage and a few other must haves so doing the deed this spring.

I too have owned a Devon Sapphire and agree the build quality was very good but a bit boring, much better than my foreign built trigano tribute which was utter rubbish , on a par with my Hymer 694 tag axle but maybe not quite up to my Hymer S820 , now over 70 so I now have a Wildax Solaris which is the best built van I have ever owned despite the S class costing over £129K. I think everyone will praise the van they currently own because otherwise they would appear to have been a dickhead for buying a lemon.
