noisy travellers

I was on a wild site last night in a secluded beauty spot when some vans arrived. A few converted buses and the like with some weird and wonderful looking people. By about 11pm the loud music started up and lasted till 3am. I didnt go over and invite myself to the festivities as I had to be up early this morning so I wacked in some earplugs and eventually got to sleep. When I woke up the place was covered in empty cans, bottles and general litter. Someone had destroyed a fence and as the revellers left they made no attempt to clean up leaving a tip for the local walkers who were just arriving.

Now I know a lot of these types of travellers and most would not do this !!!!

So who are these people ?

A group of like minded, free thinking individuals who have chosen to live in a nomadic, peaceful, eco-friendly way, free from the constraints of commercialism and fear based society whilst respecting other people in the community they choose to visit

or a bunch of disrespectful morons who all dress the same, smoke loads of weed, scrounge off the state that supports them and also give wild campers a bad name.

How can we expect the authorities to make life easier for us when this continues to happen ?

If you are one of these people, please have a good time but also buck up and have some respect !!

pity you couldnt have been covert and got some fotos of them, and the vans etc to name and shame.........

on a much smaller scale ,we were at whitby last weekend, parked on the seafront was a huge motorhome, an RS, with its genny running and its waste water running along the kerb, made me cringe.

Dear oh dear, it's no wonder locals don't want us, who would with this sort of occurrence??

Live and let live!

Each to their own, comes to mind, it is their business if they want to sit up all night and enjoy themselves. We were all young once, I think many forget that point or are an*l retentive and never had a life. There is always going to be clashes on the road because so many people use them. Nothing can be done with certain mobile groups, the mess they create and the so called claim it is their 'human right'. People on a shoestring and without the £40,000 plus motorhome do leave a little mess, gives the council sothing to do for all those pounds we spend, life is to short. You will be complaining next that my waste water goes straight into the street, at least I use a portaloo, the fun is where I empty it!

The beauty of a motorhome is we can move on if we don't like the company!

If you think these few spoil it for the rest, look at the height barriers springing up around the coast, that is not because of wildcamping but directly related to a minority group who we are supposed to be sorry for, yea for aleast one tenth of a second!

Wildcamping will always be under pressure to end because somebody believes they are not making money out of us, we will go the way of the Do Do, get use to it, it is certainly not because one or two don't clean up!

Yeah, we all like to let our hair down now and again....even anal retentives without any hair of my age, but have some respect and go and do it in a field in the middle of nowhere.
Expensive motorhome or not there's no excuse for messing the place up....if you can't be arsed to put it in the bin or take it with you then you're lazy, end of story!
If you emptied your **** next to me old chum you'd be tasting it for a week...go and bury it in a deep hole or if it has chemicals in it, in the proper place....so, like I said (if your post is not a wind up) have some respect.

Many classics or self builds don't have fancy facilities, so leak into the street or otherwise, this is not meant as a wind up, just a simple fact. I've yet to meet a braveheart in a posh van but I am always available, just PM me I'll supply the meeting place. We all have a common interest in wildcamping, friendly or otherwise, posh or poor, there are no rules or standards. As I have said it will not be a few rough wild campers that kill the 'golden goose' but those in charge who don't like us getting something for nothing. You and I have a choice to move on if we don't like the company, it is as simple as that!

Hahahaha .... no Rob, the music was really quite good and I would of gone over if I hadnt wanted to get up early to go paragliding.

I was just amazed that they left such a mess.

Yes ... live and let live .... I certainly do ... but it helps if you keep the planet clean and keep other members of the human race happy and on your side.

Or is it more trendy to behave like a disgruntled teenager who thinks the world owes them a favour and won't tidy their bedroom ? Bless....

sorry but there"s no excuse to leave a mess or "leak in the street". we didn"t have a posh van when we started, just a home conversion on a VW. we put a container under to catch waste water then got rid of it later in the hedge, without upsetting anyone and hubby managed to wedge a potta potti between the front seats(you did need to know the person you were sharing the van with pretty well) i think there are rules and standards.

Whether it's practical or not, or whether it's morally right or wrong, in the van owners opinion is not really the question.

The fact is, if you do leak off, or leave rubbish, it generates such resistance to motorhomes in the community, there will be repeated local bans and bye laws, to the point where we can't park up anywhere.

i see one or two of our members is talking from where last night dinner leaves there body , those vanners that cause a nusance and leave rubbish strewn about are the ones that are causing local councils to ban decent campers .and if i am not mistaken isent one of this sites first concernes to promote good wild camping practices it used to be or is that another slip of decencey . but no some seem to think its ok to defend them . also why should it be the decent ones amongst us have to move on just because a handfull of yobs think its ok to cause trouble and ride roughshod over others . would he think the same if it was a couple of skag head families moved into the house next door to him woud he decide it was ok and for him to move home ,no i doubt it come on all the members on here that seem to agree with live and let live for the minority of campers that cause trouble .remember this is one of the biggest and well respected wild camping sites on the web we also have members from all over the world .where they treat there ernviroment properly and enjoy there wild camping whilst it seems ok for us to wreck what we have . also as for some older vans leaking waste water ,then spend money and get it fixed .after all if it was the fuel tank leaking your hard earnd cash you would soon sort it .

Are we not here because we have common interest in Wildcamping, not because of our personal beliefs in whatever cause. Are we now saying because a particular view is more acceptable than others, who are the ones that say w3hat is or is not not acceptable. We are all individuals, we have a common interest but to go further demanding certain standards, morals are superior is a very dangerous thing. I have been rightly corrected when complaining travellers cause issues so councils react by installing barriers but clearly not all travellers cause problems. Some of us may like bury their waste, others take it home and some are not so fussed, it is a personal choice and not for others to criticise. I don't believe in green issues or that wild life should be helped or preserved, some people do, that is a personal choice. The real threat to wildcamping is the simple fact people are not making money from us, it is that simple fact that wildcamping will end. I've have just moved 200 miles because I did not like certain people around old my home, I see no reason if I had issues around my van it is certainly much easier to move for a peaceful life, anyway I doubt I would have a common interest with a bunch of Hippy types if I stayed. What we do have is a common interest in wildcamping and that is really what this site celibrates, not selective causes!

You are so mixed up rob whatever. you are just talking a load of round things.

The new PC world we live in!

Donkey too

In this world we are not aloud to be direct, merely playing around words to give a simple message, some body will take offence, a product of our great new PC world!

If I said '' how I dispose of my sh*t and rubbish is my business, there are no rules, if some **** **** (social minority) or long haired hippy is close by I would F**k off somewhere else, who gives a sh*t about the enviroment, one big ash tray out there'' people would take offence hense PC bulsh*t talk!

We have to seen to be nice!

But we love our rules.

We so love our rules that if there are no rules, we are worried and we make them up. But we don't tell anybody else what we've made up. Everybody else should live within the unwritten standards we set for them so they should know the made up rules. Ignorance of my made up rules is no excuse!

So, after we've made them up, we expect everybody else to abide by them even if nobody else knows what they are.

If others don't obey our made up rules, we complain, and we say that they (those not obeying our unwritten made up rules) spoil everything for the rest of us.

Some of us are better at making up rules than others.

That's the way it works..

The "rules" here are called morals. Of course, everybody will have a different view of morality and that is fine - until your morality starts to affect my life. This is why Mr McKinney is so wrong. It is not that he has a different opinion to the majority of us; it is that his attitude to life is potentially causing problems for others. What he does not seem to accept is that with every "right" comes a responsibility.

Call it morals, rules, laws or just respect for others, it all comes down to is. "I don't expect other to have to live in my filth so why should they leave theirs everywhere for me to have to live in". Perhaps if we shovelled all the S**t onto the doorsteps of the people who leave it then they might just take the hint.

robjmckinney,
I do not think that the only thing we share on this site is wild camping. I think most of us enjoy helping other like minded people. This does not include ruining their environment or intentionally winding up the locals where we stay.
