Ive just come back from Northumberland, not the most motorhome friendly county as I was up taking some pictures at Cullernose Point using the POI. Top spot! Anyway, I had a drive along to Embleton and parked up in the village. I wanted to check out the road that leads from Embleton down to the sand dunes and golf course. Its a dead end but I wanted to see if a motorhome could get down so I could park up overnight and get up early to photograph the boulders at Dunstanburgh Castle. The road is definatly wide enough for me and my 120, lots of room and at the end of the road definatly lots of room and hard standing to the right of the road on the verge so as not to block it. Theres no signs saying its a private road, just a public road leading to a dead end. There was a good few cars and a motorhome already there. Great I thought. Then I seen the sign. Its a blue sign with white words with "No Overnight Camping". I only wanted to drive down and sleep overnight in late autumn and winter for the sunrises when no ones around. I dont want to annoy the locals and dont want to break any by laws but wondered if such a sign has any legal standing? Theres no council warning signs, nothing saying its a private road. I guess the verge where the hard standing could be. Ill park up in Embleton anyway but wondered how to check if you can be banned by such a sign. Otherwise, great sunrise at Cullernose at 7am yesterday. Today was not so good. The beach at Low Newton to Dunstanburgh is amazing.
