New travel rules 'to be announced on Friday'

New rules for international travel are expected to be announced on Friday for England, the PA Media news agency has said.

The green and amber lists will be merged to form one category of low-risk countries, while the number of destinations on the red list will be reduced, reports PA Media.

There is also speculation that fully vaccinated people arriving in the UK will no longer need to take a pre-departure lateral flow test prior to their flight, or a post-arrival PCR test.

The changes, which could save individual travellers up to £100 each, would come into force ahead of the half-term break at the end of October.

So get rid of the test before you get on a crowded airplane and before you enter the country and just keep the one that no one bothers or remembers to take two days after arriving. Well that makes sense 🤦🏻‍♀️

Don't fill me with confidence either there used to be a fair chance your fellow passengers had tested clear Don't think We'll be going any where for a while now
Just as a second thought has anyone failed or know of anyone that failed one of the tests required to come home ?

They are going for herd immunity as it’s cheapest option. Should have done it last year

The only test that can be used to dectect dangerous new variants is the day2 or 8 pcr test. Lateral flow tests cannot be used for genome testing. I suppose red list countries are the most likely to bring in dangerous new variants, but surely they could come from any country
