I am due for a renewel in less than a month. To date I am with Saga. My present Insurance is a total of £314.56. Breakdown is like this: Full Comp £217.61, Increased personal accident:£9.95, Breakdown assist: £87.00. I have 60 per cent no claim discount. Is that too much or could I do better? Your advice would be much appreciated.

You could try the Camping and Caravan Club, they are very competitive with their insuance and their breakdown cover is only £66.00 and covers you if you breakdown while in Europe.

The breakdown Insurance with the CCC is ONLY for 90 days out of UK so no good if you are away longer, that is why I stopped using the Club insurance, try Comfort, they may not be the cheapest, but the cover is superb, IMHO.

Hi David,

the premium you are paying sounds reasonable - ours is with Safeguard and is £305 per year, including 12 months European cover and breakdown recovery. So you could probably save a little by switching but not a great amount. Some other companies might quote less for certain elements - eg breakdown recovery - but the only thing that matters is the total cost (they make up for tempting you in with a low quote for one aspect by charging more for another!).

Hi JH, How are you? Been a while since I spotted you posting. Well, I am with Safeguard as of today. Got Insurance for £273.98 all inclusive, saving £80 for the year. What you up to this winter? back to Almeria I presume. Take care.

Hi David

Glad to have been of help (even though your premium is now less than mine!!). We are both well, thanks, and off to the south-west for a couple of months before settling down to house-dwelling for a month in December (this is one of those years when we promised to be in the UK to spend Xmas with the grandchildren). Once Xmas is over, we are flying out to south-east Asia, backpacking, for three months so it should be spring and reasonable weather by the time we are back in the UK. Then back to normality and off to Almeria for the following winter! How about you? Off to Goa again to escape the cold?

All the best, John

We are flying for Xmas to my sister in Melbourne on the 13th of December until the 1st of April '12. She is arranging a weeks trip to Port Douglas, Queensland. Also a trip 10 day trip to Bangkok and Phuket (package deal) and a 5 day coach trip to to some Australian gold mine (Ballarat) which is now a tourist attraction. Personally, I would rather go to Goa, but my Mom is paying the fares for us, so I have to go for the ride.☺☺ Anyway, have a great time over the winter and enjoy your journey to South-East Asia.

Enjoy Australia - we went to Ballarat three years ago and it is well worth a visit. Might run into you in Bangkok!
