Maureen and Tom
I apologise for a momentary deviation from this thread, but my comments don’t warrant a separate topic.
Quote from Maureen and Tom,
“If there is a possibility of aire type facilities being provided then it is reasonable for the potential provider to attempt to assess custom and possible profitably. I remember a Northern Ireland council doing the same about a year or so ago. I never saw the results; I think I may now aska the council how their's turned out. Maingate or Trevskoda, do you know? “
I was involved (still am) in lobbying that council and had a hand in proof reading the survey. Whilst I did not see the specific results, the outcome was very positive. The council are looking at providing 9 parking locations, 3 of which should have services. However it is subject to a legal challenge from a caravan site, so stalled at present, but I would be hopeful that we will get a result eventually.
The situation in Ireland as a whole is that aires are gaining a foothold. I know of at least 2 that have opened in the last month and a third under construction. The pubs have cottoned on too and an increasing number are offering parking for a small fee or free with food or drink being bought.
The answer to this survey is to complete it and keep lobbying as no one else will do it for us and we have to overcome the negative press to boot.
