Hi.
heard people talk about it in general, but not sure what type they are on about, its supposed to be very bright, and very low output so great for campers etc.

could someone point me in the right direction please :) or they know on ebay what to look at, that would be great

LEDs basically give more light for less power consumed, they also apparently have a much longer service life than a regular bulb. There are LED replacements for most standard bulbs these days, giving a good saving on your battery life for very little effort - just a straight swap. If you're fitting new lights just do an ebay search for 12v led light, then select the "motorhome parts" category and scroll down til you spot what you like.

To give you an idea of the output/power consumption, i have an LED reading lamp in my van that runs off 3 AAA batteries. It easily gives out as much light as a 40 watt bulb but uses less than 2 watts. I've used it regularly for over a year now on the original batteries - probably over 60 hours.

This is similar to mine

And i quite like the look of this for a more permanent fixture

thanks, i know about LED's as i used to play around with electronics 20+ year ago, but out of touch with the latest stuff, just heard people using them...and i bought a couple of poundland lanterns, which are ok, but the 4xAA didnt last too long!!!!

i like the 2nd one, its out of my price range at the moment, but that type of thing would be ok. will check out the local poundland this week and once tested report back :)

I bought a house LED floodlight off eBay (from China) which had the newer square flat LED's instead of the traditional small dones. The difference is phenomenal and this is the type I intend using in my conversion.

Try some new reputable brand batteries in there, as the type of batteries you get as OEM in poundland are usually complete crap, or they have been standing around for two years.

Hi Im in the middle of a conversion on a ducato van at the mo, the led's do sound incredibly tempting due to the power saving for us wilders but its the price of the ones that look aesthetically pleasing that annoys me.

Also I did a little digging around to make sure that led lights can illuminate the space as well as say a 10w festoon bulb can, and i found a guide, not scientific but does draw an interesting conclusion.

eBay.co.uk Guides - Vehicle LED festoon bulbs

The best I could come up with in the uk was sets of 4 led downlighters each with 16 led's inside for £25

Instead the route I have taken is to use standard fiat ducato courtesy lights (6 in total) that have 10 watt festoon bulbs... bought brand new from this person on ebay for around £3 each...

eBay My World - greengravy33

(if he has none listed for sale msg him/her, i think they have a lot of them!)

Then to convert the festoon to a suitable led type bulb I have ordered some of these 12v panels with 36 leds built in, the panel comes with a festoon type attachment on a wire and all should be easy to mount inside my standard courtesy lights. Long delivery though but cheap coming from Japan £1.90 each. Even got it in the preffered 'warm white' colour of light.

so (hopefully nice and bright) led lights that fit in well for £5 each.

thats true. i always got 2x AA duracell ones, esp for the camera, i bought a pack of or 10 ones for a quid. lasted a good few hours, i tried the same with the duracell ones, which lasted 4 times as long but as my lanterns need 4, it would soon add up. i like the idea of good LEDs, i had trouble cooking the other night when it was late, the main 12v floresent light wasnt great (plus its behind me inline with the cooker) so this week me and my mates will rearange the inside, and at a later date i want to make some overhead cuboards, and try LEDs directly over the cooking area.

also need a switch and LED's close at hand in the night, as i often wake with pain, need a wee or a quick drink due to the meds.

Lots of discussions about LED lighting.

From my experiance, I bought 12 from Ebay, they're about the size of a 50p and are filled with loads of small surface mount diodes.

They've been in constant use for about 12 months and have not failed, but have drastically reduced the power consumption.

I bought Warm White, slightly less light but much nicer to live with.

NB. Most of them had a bridge rectifier (they're designed for a 12v AC power) so it didn't matter what the polarity of the power was, but a couple only dad a diode, so if you fit one and it doesn't light, try reversing the supply on the back of the light fitting.

Been over the moon with my Ebay bargains.

Machine Mart have a good selection, I got three 60 LED strip lights for my conversion and have never needed all three on at once I normaly just run the one over the living area, I could do with a defuser for mine as they are that bright.

Squibby.

I Fitted blue LED lighting to the sleeping area can be dimmed low wattage & funky,

I've got a small portable LED light with built in PIR for the same reason - switches on automatically when I get out of bed. Came from Lidl a little while ago and cost under £5.

Mobile Bordello indeed!!!! Lol

And yes its only £200 an Hour wife not too happy but it pays her phone bills, Ooooooooooooooo Quick hide here comes the wife (Good evening dearest one,,,, im just looking on the internet for some more perfume for you my sugar plum) Ahhhhhhhhh thats put her off the scent lol

I get mine from ATEN lighting - ordered at lunchtime, arrived next morning. Just replaced the fluorescent tubes with led strips. The flickering you see on tv is probably due to an interaction of the frame rate (or whatever it's digital name is) and the flashing of the LEDS (like the wheels on the wagon going backwards on cowboy films). Some LED lights have a circuit which flashes the light at around 8hz - this is too fast to see, but reduces the power consumption. Cunning stuff this technology...

I've got the same message again trying to update my self build thread, between the 2 posts i've wasted a lot of my time and I won't be retyping either of them.

Hi, I am the moderator :)

The software flags certain posts that it believes may be spam or against the rules. I then check them each day and approve them.

This an important feature, there are many "forum posting" companies now that employ people to post spam so that they get around most of the anti-bot security.
