Is this sign worth the time it's printed on?

I saw this sign while walking the dog. It is on a patch of rough ground overlooking Langstone Harbour. I never know how to tell a legal sign.

No, my understanding is that it needs a Road Traffic Order with the relevant numbers etc.

I think it's a Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) Ral, not wishing to be paduntic. :D

And yes, I think it needs to show the number.

Presumably it's covered by a off street parking order as per this list.
http://www.havant.gov.uk/sites/default/files/documents/HBC OFF STREET PARKING ORDER .pdf

The parking area is specifically mentioned, but I wouldn't even know that the Council own it. Other signs show Langstone Harbour Board rules and it is on a Hampshire County walking and cycle track, and I nearly got knocked down by an Environment Agency van on the footpath close by.
At least it's a legal 24 hour CR.

These are the same sort of signs now showing up on some Spanish Beaches,

Any thing in the rule about parking one of these.:scared:

That's the understanding of a lot of people but I've always been a bit suspcicious of it. After Brotherjoe used this as part of his appeal - that council said that it did not need to display the authority for the sign. Having said that - it's normal to see the authority fof an off-street parking place but not for on-street parking places. If we get a ticket then it's always worth appealing. Using any grounds we cana think of.

Here's the rejection of the argument - Post 64 Llandullas Fine's Issued

Jusr for interest - where is the sign? Havant Council have banned campervans on Hayling Island. Is that sign part of their campaiign there? So far as I remember, the restrictions on Hayling Island were instituted by an experimental traffic order. I'm not sure but I think their signs there did display the experimental TRO authority.

The car park is on Hayling. It's behind the Esso garage on Havant Rd. about half way down the island. It is used quite a lot by windsurfers in the summer.

Thank Sam, It's probably the same one then. The overnighting regulars put up a little bit of resistance and I don't think it's over yet. Their facebook page is Groupe public Saying NO to the ban on overnight parking on West Beach, Hayling Island. | Facebook but you might have to join to see what they're up to. The latest news seems to be that there is to be another council meeting with some changes to the council's plans. At the end of this month, I think.

It's not the West Beach car park. That had an overnight charge. This is a piece of rough ground with space for perhaps 8 cars.
My question is - what does a sign with legal backing look like?

Possibly similar to this one in Hartington Station carpark....
The red surrounded sign details the relevant regs and tro etc etc

That's exactly what I said but using different words in a different order! :)

It says that parking is permitted for 24 hours. It does not say that parking for longer is prohibited.

It says a maximum of 24hrs, what it doesn't say is over what time period. I suspect for the general user it is unenforceable, but is there to stop permanent parking.

I suspect that's because it is not prohibited in any legal sense of the word.
Note that it says contravention of the order may result in a penalty ticket. So you take a risk every time you don't park there?
If there was a valid TRO, the sign would say so.

Indeed, the wording does not specifically prohibit anything. You are allowed to park for 24 hours, and failure to do so may result in a penalty charge notice. I wonder whether, having never been to the place, if I'm therefore deemed to be contravening the order :D

Sadly the last statement is incorrect.

The Order prohibits use for human habitation or any domestic purpose. Consequently overnight usage may result in a PCN ...

Then you better reconsider its position on the poi's as Hayling 2.
