I hope I can explain this properly but In our van we have a cupboard on top of the gas box. At one point I was considering changing the location of our gas bottles for easy access but this is going to be too costly. it's a a bit of a pain when we want to change the gas bottle because of the "make do" cupboard we have sat securely on top of the gas bottle, my question is is there a some sort of device I can put on both bottles so when one runs out it automatically start using the other gas bottle. Our bottles are only the small So we get through them pretty quick !

Yes very useful when your in the shower, I was caught out twice so then I bought one.

Ahaaa so there is such a thing .. I remember someone mentioning it many moons ago but wasn't sure if it was something we could get for the small bottles.
It definitely make life easier knowing we can change bottles a little less frequently and maybe just carry another spare one securely under the bed.
Next question are they easy to fit ? I'm paranoid about gas leaks since I nearly blew my nans house up once

Hmmmm hope her hair grew back... but maybe not a DIY job then Jac? :lol-061:I'm sure you and Paul will manage it between you and I've heard there is a spray bottle of something or other that you squirt over the joints so that you can test for leaks. When you say small bottles, do you mean smaller versions of the ordinary Calor exchangeable propane ones? I think the fitments are all the same on top of the Calor ones, even on the titchy 3.5kg one that I've kept as a spare for the BBQ.

get a plant sprayer , a pahnd in Pahndland, 50/50 fairy liquid and water. spray every joint liberally then go back a do them again . little seepy leaks might take a little while to blow bubbles
bugger -it's snowing

AS I have little sense of smell I use an electronic gas detector to check for leaks, very sensitive as it can sense gas in rubber hoses that have not been used for some time. A gas engineer confirmed they are the way to go

The slow leaks are why proper leak spray is worth the small amount it costs....
Being a thicker spray it shows up smaller leaks before it has chance to run off.... Especially at low pressures
It also doesn't contain salt like a lot of washing liquids do.... Its why using washing up liquid isn't good for refitting window rubber seals (salty liquid residue trapped near to potentially raw unpainted metal hidden behind a rubber festering away unseen)

If you still want one, this is sat in my cupboard gathering dust. Let me know and I can take it to the Frog in Feb.

Yes it's what I used to have on my twin Gas-it setup.

Oh great Debs
I will buy it off you 😊

I'm not going to frog meet as don't think my van will be up and running then
but I will pm you.

Thanks again

If I remember, I'll acquire a tin of the leak detector spray for you, use it to check for a leak once new thingy is on.

Thanks Terry ...
that's good of you

We Just put our name down for drurige bay .. see you there 👍

Yes, they are really good for detecting that there is a leak, and maybe pinning down where it is, but a gas leak spray is cheap and froths where the leak is, so it is easier to locate.

I gave up on 'sniffers' a long time ago....

They are good... Possibly too good as they will detect traces lingering on pipework/hoses/surrounding materials etc
Away from the actual source of the leak....
UV dye/and or bubble type sprays are the most reliable and accurate way of leak finding IMHO.

Perhaps if you have been doing work on the system sprays may be effective but for doing a routine check the sniffers win hands down in my opinion. A quick sweep round the gas storage and gas appliances with the sniffer and you know id further investigation is needed.
