Lol, that got your attention...

anyway, im off this weekend, in my Campervan, a old LT35 VW.

now a couple of years ago, i had a nice German LHD VW T3, still on german license plate, and was taking another couple, so i hooked up a caravan and stuck German plates on (plus sticker saying LHD etc but still people didnt understand why i had to angle the van different at junctions, even though i was indercating!!!)

as we pulled on to a site ( i have very blonde hair (from a bottle), blue eyes, well over 6' etc and mistaken for a german anyway....)

as we was slowly driving to our pitch, i could see everyone looking at us, and saying and wispering, bloody germans are here.......and getting frowned looks.

it wasnt until i opened my gob in a broad yorkshire accent that anyone would talk to me........'oh we thought you was germans..'

Now i have camped i Germany, from Ruegen up at the sea on the Island, down to Dresden and never had the same proplem vice versa. my German is very good for a Englishman, but pretty bad german with the usual male, female etc. but i get can by, its cos i have a thing for hot German girls, so dated a good few (much more civilised, well spoken, and dont want to get drunk and swear all the time...)...so picked up the lingo.

it turned pretty bad when we went to a village pub while the site, as some of the locals must have noticed me earlier driving a german vehicle etc. turned a bit sour....

Always been made welcome on German sites, even when it was just me and the dog, in a tent...always a smile from people and basic chat. (unless they were baviarians lol).

so next time your on a campsite over here and you see a german camper etc pull on.......dont instantly think they are germans, it could be a big rough yorkshireman ;-)

ah, forgot to mention...not long after that, i got hit by a drunk driver and wrote it off.

i was pretty hurt, shoulder arm injury (but still dragged the driver out, as he was trying to get away)

it was a pretty rough part of sheffield, so all the local chavs came out, who happened to know the drink driver and they were slagging me off thinking i was a german....they thretend to firebomb the camper as we were taken away in the ambulance, we had to put the dog in the back too, and take it with us, and the police were good, they stayed with it, until a tow truck came....

this is a foto when i first got it over from Berlin, i mean.....do i look like a german lol

haha, i'd have thought you were German, yes, until you opened your mouth that is. I've never been to Germany but met lots of German campers on my recent trip round Scotland and they were all very friendly, much more friendly than the British campers actually (apart from one couple who got talking to me on a stop at a caravan club site and they wouldn't leave me alone, i had the full life history while trying to pack my stuff up and go, couldn't get out of there, i know who their great-grandkids are, their school, where they want caravanning for the past 20 years, complete with handwritten notes and directions, you get the idea...).

We were pulled into a layby near Loch Lomond taking a break the one day and a German couple stopped and came and spoke to us, said "we have the same camper as you, but our water is broken" they wanted me to help fix it (me? hahaha i can't fix anything) - very nice i must say, they were in a beautiful brand new camper and the only thing that was the 'same' as mine was that it was a Fiat Ducato, theirs much have been worth at least double what mine cost, but nice of them to compare favourably nevertheless!

i find germans like to talk, i used to get every opa and omo (granddad and granny) talk to me, more so when they found out i was english, i was the only english person at their version of blackpool (but clean sea, no litter, no drunks or foul language). Ruegen, its a nice place.

Found they cant help you enough, and often would take me ages to get served in a shop, as they wanted to know where i came from, what i did and why in germany lol. i used go to past shops every morning as i walked my dog and they would always wave.

I know many germans who have been here, and they say the people are generally more friendly, esp yorkshire people. they like our country just not the litter and chavs.

The rudest ones i find are americans, found that in Rome with a nice German girl.

German campsites are great, clean, nice facilities and so much cheaper than here, i cant afford the prices here.

I havent been back for 2 years, but miss it, so now i will use my camper over the winter, work on making the inside better and next year takes both dogs for a month like i used too! good beer, good meats (i hate german cheese, its disgusting and plastic, even more than cheese slices here lol)

This is what the drunk driver did to the van. as it was German, so no salt on the roads it had never been welded, so apart from the bent panels it was driviable, so at the start i told ins co i wanted her back....they didnt listen and it took me ages to get her back, only to find out the scrap yard and lifted her with a fork lift, so bent the fuel tank and water pipes.....so i sold her to a VW fan knowing he would get back on the road.

I stayed at a very popular campsite a few summers ago. Very full, so got stuck next to the toilets, and had people banging the toilet door all night, bouncing off my van all night on their way to and from the toilet, and kids bouncing their balls off my van and clambering underneath it to get their balls back.

Worse night I ever had.

Next morning, I was standing outside their office for them opening (I was there at 7.30am, they opened at 8am) demanding a better spot to park. They put me beside a group of German campers who had been clumped behind a hedge out of the way. I loved it! They sang songs, played guiter, and spoke to me:scared: Which was more than our lot did.

Given a choice, put me beside anyone from Europe except a UK resident (sorry, but true).

I used to be totally anti german, hated them, every single one of them, until i met a german girl in a club here who was studying (6 years ago now) all her family were so good to me, and we are still close (not with the girl, but her whole family still)

only been to a few german campsites, but never ever had a problem, always made to feel welcome. it took some time to seeing them all naked, and sharing showers.....but i guess i looked the odd one out lol.

always invited to parties, again they like sing songs etc...so yeah me too over the brits.
