Hi all. Well after.months of planning I started my holiday yesterday. So far it went like this.....
The sat nav decided to send me via a very unusual route to Ingleton in north York's via the M6. Weird. It was wet and dark but I followed the instructions. Went down a lane. It got narrow then more narrow until a tight squeeze and it opened out.....into a courtyard. I couldn't turn without help i was stuck. Out came a kind old lady to help
She helped so well she guided me into a grass muddy patch. Stuck. She called a local farmer who towed me out. How I managed to turn the 120 I'll never know. Her husband guided me back. So well he guided me into a wall. Only slight damage. Somehow I got out and boy was I annoyed. Drove down the road. Came across road works. Van was on the brow of a hill removing cones. I suppose parking 20 yards down the road was to far to walk. I slowly drove past...to find a huge lorry bearing down on me. Just missed it. How i dont know. Park where you wont cause an accident you arse. Got to Ingleton. Sadly the BBC had as usual got the weather totally wrong as it was chucking it down. Great poi site though. 5 quid in the car park. After the disaster of a day I had a drink a pizza and went to sleep the BBC said the weather will be ok tomorrow. Woke up to heavy rain and cloud. F÷×€ing BBC!!! Decided to drive to the uk"s most motorhome friendly place. Whitby. Ok I'm lying the council don't like us. Drove to Saltwick bay. Found out the haven parking spot doesn't allow...motorhome. aarggghh. Drove to the nearest car park. No overnight camping. I did notice the lane near the car park near the old Abbey doesn't have yellow lines. Possible poi? I was going to use my bike. Except as I got ready to leave the front tyre which had been fine a day earlier was flat. So a walk to saltwick.

Anyway a lot of problems but the motorhome is working great I've got a bottle of wine and found a poi site in Whitby. As for the council I spent 80 quid in Ingleton. In Whitby because of parking issues I've spend zero. Fingers crossed nothing ealse goes wrong. That sat nav. How I got out I'll never know.

You've now learnt the first rule of using a satnav, always give the route a once over before setting off.

Its a big paper thing that dont require battery and dont crash or sent you down lanes,can also be read in bright sun light.

Was the missus with you? You should have made her get off her a**e and guide you back, you know (hopefully) that you're in safe hands. Being female I can get away with that comment , when hubby couldn't drive for 12 months and I had to do it or not use the van, on one trip out we pulled into a car park with a tight parking spot, hubby wasn't able to get out of the van without difficulty so I let this helpful guy guide me back, I stopped as I thought (correctly) that we were close enough, the rack on the back, which he hadn't taken into account was a couple of inches away from a fence that would have done considerable damage.

When we were in France, our satnave - used on Ron's phone sent us into a vinefield, with loads of potholes, Ron got out tested the depth of the potholes and then drove through them, the track was one the tractors used, we finally ended up on the road and he could not understand why I was upset, also I might mention it was late evening and pitch black. but we survived. :lol-053::lol-053:

A bit late for you now but I always look at poi on google maps before using them. Our Aguri sat nav is fine so far, stops us coming up against low bridges anyway as has dimensions and weights in. Just done 1200 miles Scotland trip (not home yet but back in England) without problems.

I love having a sat nav, but have found out the hard way that it is not a good thing to religiosly obey it, particularly in a motorhome. In some ways they are very clever, but will take you down some difficult roads to save a matter of yards or seconds.

Yeah have to say I find a sat nav very convenient, it’s always on when I’m traveling, The trouble is it keeps wanting me to -
‘perform a ‘U’ turn’
& She really gets quite angry when I don’t, But it eventually gives in & just re routes.

My arguments with 'Jane' are legendary, couple of times on the last trip to Germany had put way points on a side street by mistake and 'she' wouldn't let it go, had to switch 'her' off in the end.

Love it when the sat nav takes me the wrong way, In Sweden we were taken about 12 miles through a beautiful forest with graveled roads , before exiting on to the main road we were expecting to go on,had to stop and make tea at one point as a lorry and trailer were blocking our path and the driver was loading logs on his vehicle with a crane attached to the lorry, gave him tea too.great journey.
